Full and split boot refuse to open

Hiya,

I have a 05 Sport HSE and it's been a bit of pain but on the whole a lovely car till now...

I'd just loaded up with the weekend's supply of garden stuff from B&Q, got to the car, unlocked the car, pressed the boot button, heard the usual mechanical whirr but the boot wouldn't release at all. I checked that all the other doors opened fine. I relocked and unlocked and then tried the half-boot but that wouldn't release either (no clunk of the release mechanism at all).

I've tried the emergency boot open from the manual and once again there's a click from the boot indicating something has been released but the boot is firmly shut. The onboard 'puter doesn't even complain that the boot is open so that sensor must show that it is still secure.

I know the car has been in the sun a bit today and that the temperature has hit 88f (about 31c for those of you who use metric) - would this be enough to seize the mechanism at all?

Any ideas how to open it manually rather than take it to the stealers?

Thanks in advance.

'tang.

I had same problem on my FL2.

Turned out to be non slip mat in boot trapped in catch stopping boot release. Embarassed

Managed to open it by pushing/pulling boot while pressing release on keyfob.

Worth a try. Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

I'll give the push/pull method a try once the temparature dips a bit.

I've been caught by the mat before so I made a right idiot of myself dropping the back seat and crawling across to make sure it hadn't done it again - gave the other people in the car park a laugh though.

I'll let you know if it works.

Job done. A bit of brute force and it's open. I've now liberally coated the mechanism in grease so hopefully this won't happen again Smile

Thanks!
