MY10 yet another fault - radio/SatNav and Phone failed

Driving along with the radio on and suddenly screen goes blank and no noise. Turn off engine etc. etc. and the centre screen is dead - nothing, no sat nav, phone, radio or anything else. Checked the fuses - has anyone tried this? they are next to impossible to remove and replace and if you drop one... well goodbye as it falls into an inaccessable abyss (the fusebox, its placing and the little tool to remove them could have been better designed by my two year old daughter, and thanks to LR leaving many sharp plastic and metal edges around the glove box my hands are also cut to pieces).

So warranty trip number 6 coming up. My patience is running out with Land Rover and their crap cars.

Question though - anybody else seen this problem so I might be able to suggest to the dealer what to look for?

Leave it locked up for an hour and then try again. That has cured the SatNav and Bluetooth problems I've had. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

Was it built before early February, and is it pre-10 regiastration?....... if so, has your dealer carried out the 'Reassurance Program' on the vehicle?

There are a number of improtant software and battery updates that could be applicable to your car.

RichardM - Thank you but no joy I'm afraid. Left for a couple of hours over lunch. The fuses that seem to be linked to anything to do with the stereo and central infotainment systems were fine but all the systems that use the central display - stereo, SatNav, phone, voice control - don't work. The screen doesn't even come up with the Range Rover logo when it is switched on.

James - The car is a MY10 TDV8 delivered on the 6th Sept last year so one of the first MY10s off the line (this may be a cause of the problems?). The 'Assurance Programme' was warranty visit number 4 completed 3/4 weeks ago - it fixed some issues but since the update the wing mirrors and seat memories have been enchanted returning to different positions every time - annoying but not as much as the latest wide scale brain failure.

I must say I am becoming really pi**ed off with this car, it is just one thing after another - an unending stream of misery.

Not pouring salt on your wounds, but I never ever buy any new product from the first line — even Apple, despite their excellence.
Always wait a mere 6 months helps to have some glitches ironed out by manufacturer.
That said, my MY10 to come (next July) might as well be faulty, leading me to regret my faultless Jaguar. Mr. Green 2010 TDV6 3.0 HSE Santorini Black Tan Full Leather

I had the same thing with my 09 plate but mine came on after the car was switched off for a couple of hours. Unfortunately mine was linked to other suspension problems that meant taking out various modules from a "donor" car and swapping them into mine until the faulty units were found. Dont know which ones they were though. Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

Sorry to hear that Singe and to read about the problems you've hit. I've had a few problems, yesterday the Sat Nav screen froze and I couldn't select anything, Audio, Nav, Phone etc it just showed the home screen but after parking it up at Gaydon for an hour it was fine. That has always solved any problem I've had. I believe mine was an August 09 build too. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

Quantz - Laughing Laughing - a very appropriate comment. Stuck my cut up hands into a salt bath (don't ask - baby related) and boy did they sting! There is a piece of metal just in front of the fuse box which appears to support the facia panels in the passenger footwell. It is a rough cast and completely unfinished with razor sharp edges - hence my cut up hands. I hate to think what would happen if that was propelled towards your legs in an accident.

Rang up dealer as I saw they were open today (selling cars) - I guess I was expecting too much as no one from service was there, couldn't make a booking and asked to ring back. Not even a 'Sorry to hear you are having more trouble with your car' from the sales guy. Land Rover sucks! Back to phone tag with the dealer and 'don't worry sir we can look at your car in six weeks'. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

James - since I work in London would Lookers take on sorting this latest problem? I didn't buy the car from you but wish I had! I could probably drop the car off if I am in the mood to sit on the M25 for a few hours one morning. I think I could do with trying some of the legendary Lookers service.

Sorry to hear, seems the very first batches were not without their problems. Chap on Disco3.co.uk checked my VIN to confirm if it was an early car or not, as it turned out it wasn't so all ok..... 2010MY Land Rover Freelander 2 HSE

Update - the dealer against all my expectations picked up the car this morning and took it in to sort the problems out. Rang at 3pm to get an update and they still hadn't got the car into the workshop to look at. Got a call back an hour later to say they don't know whats wrong but nothing on the Infotainment circuit is communicating with anything else and it is a major job to rectify and will need it for at least two days. I told them they couldn't keep the car (as I did when they arranged to pick it up) as we have two small kids, live in the middle of the contryside and have no other car. So wife stranded at home for the day with two kids for dealer to connect it to a laptop for twenty minutes to tell me they don't know what is wrong with it. Ahhhh - normal (non) service resumed.

Better still no loaners available until the tail end of May.

So defect number 11 and warranty visit number 6 inside 7 and a half months and 5000 miles of ownership. How I wish we had the 'Lemon' laws of California to deal with rubbish like this. Now in the hands of Land Rover customer services - but I am not holding my breath. This will be the last Land Rover I ever buy.

That was what happened with mine and the days turned into 5 weeks with mine finding out where the problems were! The multimedia unit, once they diagnosed 1 of the faults, then turned out to be on back order too. Dont know if thats still the case though. Maybe got them back into stock again. Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

Feedback from the guy from Land Rover Assist (AA) who collected the car this morning - 'not another new Land Rover' - by his own admission they are retrieving rather a lot of new RRS and Discos at the moment! Hope the AA signed the contract with LR on a per vehicle basis.

I know it doesn't help you Singe, but for the record, our MY10 TDV8 (Mar 1st) has now covered 4000 faultless miles. (save for the small heater/alarm glitch sorted by LR).
I'm sure they'll sort yours and when they do, you have to admit it's a cracking car.

Best of luck and I hope they sort it!

Singe

If i was you, having read the text and been through a similar issue with a BMW Z4 i would suggest you issue a starting letter stating that you believe the vehicle is not fit for purpose and that you will commence proceedings to "Hand back" the vehicle. I ended up successfully giving mine back for full price minus a sum agreed by all for mileage covered but I agreed in the end not to pay that due to my time, cost and petrol having the damn thing returned to the dealer

In a nut shell. Poor qualty product teamed with poor quality service.
I am still waiting for my replacement camera that the dealer in Bristol said would be sorted when it went in 3weeks sgo .
Don't worry your camera will go wrong once they get the screen working again!!!!
