Yes, I had the parkbrake shoe linings disintegrate on one side, and the linings (well, what was left of them) jammed inside the drum, it got so hot it melted the little plastic plug in the hole for adjusting the park brake shoes.This was also accompanied by the 'screamer' of a noise you get when you apply the park brake, when it is knackered, or clearly out of adjustment . I replaced the shoes, and adjusted them properly (unlike the useless dealer did previously ) and all has been fine since. But be aware, that caliper pistons and pads have been known to seize also, so you could have either problem. I think in your case if you could drive it without the disc / drum getting hot, then the AA man must have freed off the correct parts,but it could happen again. Mine could be driven but the drum got very hot and was not easy to turn when I jacked it up to see what was wrong.Luckily I was not far from home so didn't drive it far in this condition.
