What style of driving do you do, around London (lots of stop start), motorway and distance or mix?

Yes a good mix, London mainly and motorway trips too - do you think I have any redress from the dealer??? it's no big deal if i don't - just means another £200 for the rear pads/disc....but would like to think Lookers would fight my corner if it was unreasonable - and the sensors are a waste of time!!! They never ever have come on.....if they had my discs would not be lipped as they are! |

Are he pads grinding because they are metal on metal, if not then the wear indicators wont have activated. As for discs 'lipping'......they all do that over time. If you had pads alone chaned last time then its likely that you need to swap discs and pads second time around. If you changd both last time then there is either a problem or more likely you will only need pads this time!

Check sensor is / was fitted, if not you may have redress because the very low pads could cause cost you a set of discs. AFAIK dealers recommend discs every two sets of pads - IME they can go further. In the end though most dealers will say it is your responsibility to monitor and 10K is 'in the region' i guess Check your sensor though - that'd be interesting |

Can you tell which side it is Nick? because there is no wear sensor on the nearside rear (or offside front) sets of pads, quite often these can be the first to wear out annoyingly. RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i |

Why do they do that, my offside front was practically metal on metal before the indicator came on. I changed the rears before the sensor activated and the nearside was far worse! If you had new discs and pads fitted 10k ago that is not very long at all. If you are metal against metal then more than likley you will require new discs again.

I seem to remember only having once having to swap the Discs & Pads on My 2007 TDV6 and that was traded in at 43,000 miles! I'm pretty sure they were only swapped at the 30k service. 10k seems VERY short! My driving involves a lot of winding Highland roads which, obviously, involves a lot of cornering & climbing & descending long steep inclines, which would be pretty tough on the breaks. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Nick for sure you have a case. Brake pads especially rear ones should last more . On my car now after 40K (highway/city, 60/40) are now almost finished still a few 1K but the rear ones should last even a bit more. Good luck 2008 RRS TDV8 HSE, Java black, Alpaca,..... |

Turns out only 6,000 miles since all the discs and pads were changed all round - so taking the car into Lookers this afternoon to see what they say. Surely they won't expect me to pay for the replacements......
