NickM..... they are expecting you!! Thumbs Up

Let them have a look and see what they say. From experience you could have a siezed calliper, however I am keeping that to myself! Thumbs Up

And if it is a calliper - what does that mean? Does it give route for an escape from the dealer????

Nick, see what they say when they see it.

It could have siezed in which would wear the pad/disc prematurely. If the other side has plenty of 'meat' on it then it would suggest the calliper as I would imagine both sides were changed at the same time?. It is strange that the last disc/pad was so badly worn last time (remember I saw the disc and commented), is it the same calliper/side? I'll be around later, so see you then.

Someone please enlighten me as to what the seized calliper could mean? Is this something that has gone wrong that would cause the brake pad to wear faster and damage the disc which would not be the responsibility of the dealer - or is the calliper part and parcel of having the brake pads and discs changed? I am off there in 2 hours and would appreciate your help! Thanks Thumbs Up

Nick,

I am sure that my opinion will be deemed as slightly biased, but if the calliper was siezed before the pad/disc fitment then the new pads wouldn't have gone on (as the piston would have been proud), therefore IF (and I say a big IF) it is the calliper then it would have perhaps happened at a later stage. Have you noticed it feeling sluggish?

Nope car feels fine and driving as normal - only started happening on Saturday - the grinding when stopping - can't really see/hear if it's on both sides - so will wait and see. Thanks for your help guys. Just as a side note though - it would be silly just to change one pad and one disc on one side if it only affects one side right? You would need to change the pair to ensure even wear.....

I am hoping that both sides have wear on them and then I will hopefully get them replaced FOC. I spent a lot getting them all changed (discs/pads front and back) at the dealer last year.......

If the Calliper, and I am not covered will call LR Cust Service and ask for a contribution. As to whether they will pay towards the subsequent damage the calliper has caused - we will have to wait and see.....

Ok, just read a few lines online - and yes james I see where you are coming from - but the good news is - it isn't the callipers - because the pads are not constantly on the disc - and the car is driving fine - so yes if it was a problem with the callipers I would indeed find the car slow and sluggish - but the pads are def releasing each time.

I called someone else I know who works in LR tech, and he advised it could be a faulty pad - and because the sensor is not on the nearside rear - it would not have warned you there was a problem. he said best way to check if the calliper is faulty is if when you are driving, without applying the brake you can hear the discs/pads grinding. This isn't happening thankfully....
