gear shift lever slips out of drive pain

Hi,

my first post here.

Problem I have is that the gear lever on the auto transmission ( 05 hse diesel) will slip out of drive very slightly, I have to pull the lever back in order to re engage it.

Now It only takes a feather touch to knock it out and only moves a fraction.

I removed the skid pan to access the tranmission and there is a cable which controls the selector positions...so far so good I think a simple fix by just adjusting the cable.
Nope, obviously adjusting it one way will move it slightly from another position.
Now the lever itself is stiff when being moved, when unlocked from the selector tranmission side it moves freely and smoothly.

Does anyone have any ideas?
I think the cable is at fault and possibly binding when under tension?
I have also removed the console and all is ok within the selector mechanism; I think
Does the selector have a sensor that detects the postion?, the cable shift is mechanical but is there a position sensor somewhere perhaps?

Any replies will be most helpful, thankyou

solution found on disco3 site...hooray!!

Hi,

after much searching I have discovered the FIX for this apparantly common problem.

It all stems from the bush in the linkage corroding.

Here is the thread with pictures!

hope it helps someone else.

I actually just cleaned the components up and applied some grease.
