Locking Car

On MY10 TDV6 with keyless entry is there any way to leave the car running and lock the doors externally with no-one in it?

Surely (don't call me Shirley) if you lock the car (assumedley with a second remote) then it will re-engage the engine immobiliser and halt the engine Question

How many of us sat in the office looking at RRSport.co.uk today becuase the snow has bu**ered everything up. We are open for business, seems nobody else is Wink Smoke me a kipper: I'll be back for breakfast.

RRS HSE TDV6 gone after 15 months since new - will not be missed I'm afraid - bit of a gremlin in there somewhere - too many issues. Replaced with FFRR Vogue TDV8 - very nice - not as sporty (of course) but absolute luxury.

Not sure that would be a great idea since someone could smash the window and drive off with the key in the ignition.

We have cars at work that allow you to leave them running with no keys in the ignition but it needs a fair amount of electrical trickery since the runstop device kills the engine if you touch the brakes and light up a brake light, think other electrical devices kill the engine but not sure which ones.

Hope this helps

Just wondering why you would want to do this?

If it is to pre heat car before journey and not have it pinched, what about the FBH option???

Even if not fitted as option think it is fairly easy cheap to enable

Thanks for the responses. As already posted pressing key fob doesn't work. Want to pre-heat the car in the morning and de-ice screens which takes about 5 mins. The car is in a gated area which is pretty secure but as with all my previous cars just dont feel comfortable with it unlocked and out of sight. Someone could climb the gate open the door and pinch my Abba CD !

I wouldn't mind betting that the keyless go system doesn't allow you to lock the car with the key from the outside with the engine left running.... you could feasibly start the engine, lock the car and then lose the key - then you're stuffed (granted you've got two keys, but easier to remove the risk in the first place).
