2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange
Model range etc

Guys,
As you can see, I've just joined this forum, am considering the move from X5 ownership to RRS, always liked them but never really looked at them seriously until now, but what i really want to know about is all the different models available, engine size/specs etc etc.
It won't be a new one, and I will have a budget around 25-30K, I am used to the grunt of a V8 so need your input as what would match up to that.
Also, is there anything to really watch out for.
Thanx.

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Steve here goes:

2.7TDV6 (now out of production) came with 2.7ltr V6 Diesel in S, SE,HSE and HST and some 2009 G4 Challenge versions
4.4V8 petrol (now not sold in the UK but available for export markets) HSE and G4 Challenge Specials only
4.2 Supercharged (now replaced by 5.0ltr S/C VCool - HSE and HST versions
3.6lt TDv8 - twin turbo V8 diesel - HSE and HST and about 10 2009 G4 Challenge versions built
5.0ltr Supercharged V8 (Jaguar engine) - HSE
3.0TDv6 - new 2 x sequential turbo V6 diesel for 2010MY, to comply with Euro5 emissions regs
Oldest cars are May/June 2005 and there have been minor spec changes up to October 2009 when the facelifted 2010My cars were launched

Only a few special editions - Black and White and various guises of HST (some are dealer fit, most are factory fitted out). Most recent special is the "Stormer" with 2.7TDv6 engine

Watch out for modified cars - lots of chipped 2.7V6's around, on TDv6 HSE with trick optional suspension and TDv8 watch out for suspension rattle - LR refuse to acknowledge there is a problem but there is, the bushes wear out quite quickly but there is now a "mod" from the factory. There have been issues with Exhaust Gas Recirc Valves and the Turbo on 2.7TDv6 cars but it isn't that common. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

4 year old S/C will be in your price range but also out of warranty!
You should also get an early 2007 TDv8 for £30k - it is a great engine with a good V8 rumble and decent economy if driven with restraint (I get 30+ mpg on 400 mile length of the UK drives and 27-30 on fast A roads but most seem to get 24-26mpg in commuter driving - I don't commute!)

3 years old 2.7TDv6's are between £25k and £27k - take a look at the sponsors websites for their used car listings or go to the Land Rover website and search there 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Steve, also watch out for suspension faults.

The whole air suspension thing is pretty clever, however when it goes wrong it can be pricey to put right.

We were quoted (Admittedly in Cyprus) anything from c. €200 for a faulty sensor replacement, through €1,000 for a new air compressor (Fitted) to a faintly ridiculous c. €2,000 for ECU replacement.

Some owners have also reported rapid tyre wear, usually down to the tracking not being set up properly. There has also been gearbox shunt problems reported on older cars 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The mpg you mention is not bad at all from a lump that size, I'm very lucky to get anywhere near that in my 4.6 X5.
I know what a pain in the arse air suspension can be, X5's have it, i would be looking to get some sort of warranty with the car, either main dealer or after market.
I quite like different colours to the norm. hence why i like the orange one that's on pistonheads at the moment, am I heading for trouble liking orange, ( not the official name for the colour ).

Tangiers Orange is a special for G4 Challenge cars, unless it is the ONE that was painted in metallic Lambo orange!
G4 RRS's are very rare
Orange was also available from Kahn and Overfinch at a £10k premium..................... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Just had a look nice looking RRS, love the colour 1st addition.

Need to loose the light guards and get the grill surround colour coded along with the side vents, then it would look stunning and a rare car.

Talk to Kam100 about warranty cover. Good luck with your search. Thumbs Up

Ps thank god your getting a proper 4x4. Wink Whistle

Another question, servicing, how does it work on the RRS, time/mileage, or like bmw's, depends on how you drive the car.
Also, are there different types of service, ie. minor/major etc. etc.
Dare I ask about costs as well.
