How to reset engine light!

Hey guys,
I just hit 100K and the engine light came on. Since I change my oil and other fluids at a local garage (not the EVIL dealership) no one resets anything, so I'm guessing (HOPING) that the engine light is on just because of that.
I've looked online and found 2 instructions:
1. insert the key
2. hold the "i" button for 5 seconds while i turn the key into the 2nd position.
3. apparently a menu or something comes up at this point but no matter what I do nothing happens.

I'd appreciate if someone could help. It's really annoying coz every single person who sits in the car says "DUDE, YOUR ENGINE LIGHT IS ON!"

P.S HAPPY NEW YEAR YALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would suggest that something more serious is wrong with your car - it isn't telling you it needs a service it is telling you something else! The service indicator is a small spanner with a number beside it (days or kms to service due or passed service if a minus sign is showing as well) and that is what gets reset at service time 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

yup, engine light has nothing to do with changing fluids or service. You need to get it hooked up to a computer to read what fault has occurred. If it came on same time as the work being done id take it back because they have probably messed something up. On the bright side its a permanent light in your case so the computer will tell you whats wrong (in theory). WINNER - 2008 Best All New Photograph

If your local garage as not got the needed tools to proplery diagnose your car and you dont want dealer visits it may be worth thinking of some kit for your self.
The MSV2 from blackbox soloutions is perect for this, or even the Faultmate FCR which is just a fault code reader with no extras for a couple of hundred pounds its a bargin.
