Locked in low range

Nearly two weeks ago my RRS decided to lock itself in low-range. It has been with LR since then and I have now lost any faith in their ability to fix it, so I've come to the experts to see if you can suggest any solutions that I can give to LR. So far LR have:
1) replaced the selector solenoid in the transfer case - with no effect.
2) replaced the wiring loom between the gearbox and the computer - with no effect.

When I spoke to the LR today they said they have no idea why the fault won't go away and said they have no idea how long they will need the car for to try and work out the problem.

Does anyone on here have any knowledge of this particular problem so that I can help LR fix one of their own vehicles?

Many thanks, 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey with Alpaca premium leather, Adaptive cruise, Adaptive Bi-xenons, sunroof, Premium Nav, Premium ICE Logic 7, telephone, active locking rear diff, console coolbox, seat memory, powerfold mirrors, tow pack, window tint, dual battery, engel fridge, Goodyear Mud-Terrain tyres.

Confused that's a new one....

Have they checked the switch itself, relevant fuse? What about the transmission ecu?

I didn't ask them about the fault numbers but I will certainly ask them tomorrow as well as give them the possible causes you and Leo have listed here.

640, If Bobby's wisdom fails to point your dealer in the correct direction, then I would suggest you promptly move to reject the car, and if necessary use the NSW equivelant to Consumer Affairs Vic and VCAT..

I had the lovely experience of Melbourne City Land Rover (MLR) chasing their tail on my car for 7 months, firstly tightening things, then replacing all sorts of things like the steering column and steering rack to no avail...

Don't let them drag it on for as long as they have with my Range Rover Sport!

Excuse my cynical sarcasm, but I would hate for them to tell you something like they won't fix it cos you've fitted off road tyres, and taken it off road! Rolling Eyes Yawn

Many thanks,

I once had the opposite - I couldn't get it to go from high range to low range after a particularly vigorous offroad adventure. After trying the switch a few times, I decided to check the manual and see if there's a fuse which controls this. Lo and behold...that did the trick...just replaced the fuse and it worked again.

Maybe worthwhile checking yours as well...as it may be just the opposite scenario. PJPR

Just had a call from LR and they have decided to replace the entire transfer case as they believe it to be an internal failure. It will take about a week or so to receive the parts from the UK so hopefully that will solve the problem. Can anyone confirm whether replacing the transfer case also involves changing the control module?

UPDATE

The dealer replaced the transfer case after no success withe the solenoid or the wiring loom. But guess what....

Transfer case was replaced yesterday but when they took it for a test drive, same problem. It is locked in low range and they have no idea what to do next.

Its been with them for 31 days so far, how long should I wait before taking further action? I'm not sure I like the idea of them continually replacing various parts fo the vehicle in the hope that they find what is causing it. Maybe I should consider flying Bobby out to Australia as I'm sure he'd sort them out!!!

I also do not want to beat a dead horse, but refer to my post above Whistle

But this type of poor service where the official dealer is effectively guessing what is wrong is more common than you would think, and i would suggest you reject the car as "not of merchantable quality" soonest! Shocked

Get them to call Lance Dixon in Melbourne. They seem to know the cars inside out!

Read fault codes?

More like clear them - wash car, give to Customer.
