What I do for a living

Onsite today at a project I've been working on for two years - responsible for the entire electrical, AV and automation system - I have been developing the Lighting scheme also (first time for me instead of having a lighting designer) - the house will be 100% lit with LED lighting.

In principle the house is a 'positive energy' build (not eco) generating surplus energy from Solar panels, with heating from Ground Source and Air Source heating.

Took some pics today so thought I'd share them - if anyone is interested in LED Lighting for their home then please feel free to drop me a PM

Cheers

Kaine

Very nice indeed Kaine Thumbs Up

I’m quite surprised at how “Warm” the colour temp is from some of those LED sources. The ones I’ve been playing with have all been quite cold.

For instance I have never been able to get the warmth out of either CFL’s or LED’s such you have in photo 7 Exclamation

But I wonder how much has it to do with the colour choice & finish of the walls ?

rupert - the key is they are all RGB so we can play with the colour temps (warm/cool etc) - the vivid colours are only for fun and maybe a party mode for the client

btw, all of the downlights are 5W LED MR16's and GU10's - ended up importing them myself to get the best spec for the cost as most wholesalers LED lights are too pricey and too dull.

Ah yes RGB.

I see in photo 13, that the accent light seems to be made up of a string of leds, which leads me to a particular challenge I’ve been having in replacing some under cabinet lighting. I’ve yet to get a light source to give me the same warmth as a 30W striplight bulb.

But that looks the biz Thumbs Up

How would they work out in replacing 20W tungsten MR16's in a landscape lighting situation.

How does the 5W Led compare output wise ?

each light source you can see on the strip are 3 LED's in one housing (RGB) - works very well. We have them in the Kitchen Utility (under unit lights) - perfect match for T5's - plus only 2W per strip.

They give the same Lux levels as a 35W tungsten, however they are more directional - see pic 48 and you will what I mean - we are using them in the grounds to light the trees as this works very well

Dom - most of the readily available ones are crap - I agree. Most quoted outputs are wrong - took me over a year to find the best ones

I'd be interested in finding out more about the led RGB strips & the led MR16's Kaine. Sounds just like what I'm looking for. Thumbs Up

the advantage for this project has been the ability to plan for using LED lights and developing an overall lighting scheme - the advantage is 200 downlights running max 1kw which is a massive energy saving. If you just replace existing light fittings with LED's then it doesn't always work (I know this in case of my house)
