Power tailgate (soft close ) stopped working

The powered tailgate closing thing on my two month old MY09 RRS has stopped working Big Cry

You know when you close the tailgate, the last little bit of closing happens electrically? Well that's the bit that has stopped working. The tailgate is actually mostly shut and kind of latched by that point. You can only open it again when you use the key. So I CAN still drive the car. However, the interior light comes on and the instrument panel shows a 'tailgate open warning. .... and I am a bit worried that it will fly open when I drive.

Has anyone had this happen before? Is there a simple reset? .... or is it a trip to the dealer for a warranty repair? I've been mad for flipping years, absolutely years, over the edge for yonks.

Someone posted recently that if you press lock and unlock together on your keyfob it might fix talgate problems. Worth a go as it solved it for me on my 09 RRS when that locked up half closed the other night. WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

Yep, that was all news to us but definitely worth trying. You may find that because the hatch is not in the open OR closed state, the auto close doesn't kick in. If you can open the tailgate again using the trick above, then attempt it I'd expect it to auto close again. If not, might be worth a trip to the dealer.

Sounds like a trip to your local Dealership to me.

It could be a simple blown fuse or if someone has been a bit heavy handed in slamming the tailgate you could have Censored up the soft close mechanism. I hope I'm wrong but it's worth getting it checked out properly. Either way it will be covered under warranty.

Good luck Thumbs Up Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

It works on the keyfob on mine as well as dash. Apparently (according to the manual) this also cycles betwen secure entry (drivers door only) and open entry (all doors) on one button click on keyfob.

If it was me reading this I am sure I would be making some pathetic juvenile joke about secure and open entry but thats just the kid in me trying to get out. WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

hold the black boot release button down for 12 seconds, while the top part of the tailgate is open

this is how the dealer fixed mine

if you open and close the boot too many times in a period of time (4 in a minute?) the power close function shuts down as it suspects a problem. the above technique resets it.

I thought pressing and holding the lock and unlock buttons on the remote for 3 seconds is to enable/disable the single-point entry feature only! Shocked

Got to admit I don't know much on the 09 models, though... . Crying or Very sad

Anyway, good for you! Thumbs Up Malaysia Boleh!

Aha, that was interesting. It didn't work, because I discovered that the electric button to open the tailgate glass doesn't work. It used to before this problem happened. Also, I have noticed that the tailgate wiper doesn't always work - particularly when the car is not moving.

I now think it might be a fuse issue .... but I can't identify which fuse would operate the 'soft close' tailgate mechanism (the manual doesn't say) .... and is it related to the loss of power on the tailgate glass. ... or is this not a fuse problem at all? I've been mad for flipping years, absolutely years, over the edge for yonks.

But if the full door is open you'll not be able to open the top half anyway - they are interlocked. Again the wiper might be interlocked to an open boot door in the same way (as maybe the rear washer). It obv may be fuse related but the interlocking of these doors could also explain what you report.

Aside of these other variants cropping up - does the 3 sec dash reset suggested not make any difference?

Are all RRS HSE equiped with soft closing booth or is it optional (mine takes quite a force to close)

You don't have this feature, it was introduced later. Wink Malaysia Boleh!
