Trackers

With so many insurance companies now asking for tracker to be installed on RRS and thieves becoming very proffesional are they as effective as believed, i am hearing that pro scumbags are aware of where the items are fitted and remove accordingly.

Hadn't heard about them being removed but the thieving b Censored s do park the stolen car up somewhere they can keep an eye on it. If it's found in a few days they know it had a tracker. If it isn't then they do what they want with it. Evil or Very Mad Current: I can't say...Oh the Shame!

Jonty as an ex Scoob owner you should know this Whistle you could not have been a scoobynet forum member Wink In my WRX owning days in the UK, it was reported that a number of high end, special edition Scoobs got stolen (mainly to order), RA's, P1's, 22B's that type, and in a number of cases the tracker system was found ripped out and dumped within a few miles of the scene of the crime. Whilst their are many hiding places on the vehicles, at the time the industry had a tendency to use a small number of easy accessible places to install and some installers lets say may not have been all that honest.

That said however, your average opportunist thief if out for a joyride is most probably not going to look, and most probably a percentage of those just nicking to order may not either, so it should give you piece of mind and also some minor relief against the premiums, not much as i remember, it was just a prerequisite to have one Twisted Evil Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

There is only one tracker: http://www.i-mob.co.uk/

Expensive, but worth it on your pride and joy. You can also shut down the vehicle and lock the scumbags in the events of a stealing session Thumbs Up L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!

I've lost faith in most of these 'tracking' devices - I spent around a £1K having Navtrak installed on one of my ZM Coupes several years ago. I sold it to a friend and within a month of ownership the car was stolen from his drive - subsequent CCTV footage from a nearby shop showed the scumbags somehow disabling the unit by going through the 'kidney grills', then literally pushing the car down the road before it disappeared.

Navtrak didn't even receive an alert from the car (it was the system that has a card that needs to be on the driver) and were extremely embarrassed (as they bloody should be!) about the whole incident. They paid for a loan E Class for my friend for 2 months, but he was still obviously out of pocket and massively inconvenienced by the whole thing.

I'm now of the mindset that if my car is stolen I don't acutally want it back - it's either going to have been properly ragged (perhaps not so much in the case of a TDV6 RRS....!) or damaged in someway. To that end I'd rather pay for RTI gap insurance than get a tracking device fitted (if not already fitted).

I changed insurance company when I bought the RRS in Nov as I wasn't prepared to pay a few hundred quid to get a basic tracking device fitted on principal (and got the dealer to throw in 3 years of no limit RTI Gap ins).

I've also been told (and don't know if this is 100% accurate) but 'Tracker' is somehow connected to Direct Line (or a another insurance co) and hence they specify that you need a tracking device on just about any half decent car you want insured....

Cynical....moi?

It's expensive Josh..........£1100 for the all singing and dancing one Whistle

Saying that, I paid £400 + subscription to Tracker, phoned them 7 times whilst with them and each and every time they could not find my car Shocked naturally the question I asked was, WTF am I paying you...........the excuses were pitiful and ultimately pathetic for such a huge corp.

I would rather pay 3 times the amount and have a device that I control if some scumbag decides he wants my wheels. Communication to the vehicle, shut down the engine, lock the doors..........direct the boys in blue whilst they travel along the motorway................its like the new Assasins Creed Wink L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!
