that little white light thing

by the rear view mirror - not sure if someone found out what it was for... but it illuminates the coin jar by the light socket

It's Land Rover's poor attempt at "waterfall" lighting, I think the idea was to make the area around the gear shifter - cup holders, ashtray, etc. - a little more visible at night.

I think you mean the LED in the main interior lamp unit.

Yes, this is the waterfall lighting which is part of the lighting control switch functionality which also controls the brightness of the switch and instrument cluster display illumination.
Rotate the instrument pack illumination dimmer to see its effects! Cool Malaysia Boleh!
