Tyres

Just spotted Range Rover Vogue with 255/55/19 Pirrelli Scorpions fitted. As I have Goodyear 255/50/19 directionals fitted to my RRS TDV8 wondered whether any probs fitting 255/55/19s to it? The Goodyears are very road orientated and as our road is 5ks of gravel I think the Scorpions with a slightly more aggressive tread should be better. RRS P460e

Many big trips done in this one.
1982 Rangerover nearly restored.
22 Defender D250 with lots of stuff for outback touring
Nice 2013 Freelander TD4 manual (for daughter to learn on) with much better stereo compared with previous SD4 SE with Meridian which sounded bad!

RJ,

I don't know the answer to your question as i run 18's with Grabbers on them... However I have a questions for you.. I notice your D3 has the traxide dual battery system, did you fit that yourself, or did someone locally in VIC fit it for you? I'm keen to get that done myself!

Cheers

Just had a very quick search and it looks like the Scorpions are available in 255/50 R19's as well, unless you are particularly the extra side wall?

Tyres and Traxide

Hi 2nd Rower,
Traxide was fitted by Mornington Auto Electrics who did a good job but said they did not think it was possible to do it in the time suggested in the instructions. You must use Yellowtop Optima D34 battery. I seem to remeber that you commute from the peninsula to melbourne or was that someone else. If you do why don't you PM me and maybe meet up sometime.
Should have looked up Pirelli tyres myself. Thanks for having a look. A bit of extra sidewall would be good. Just wanted to know if somebody had fitted larger sizes to RRS. Come to think of it I seem to remember that the Goodyear MTRs in 19 are 255/55, I must look it up. Have D3 with Grabbers fitted and they seem pretty good but not available in 19s. Saw pics of your Snowy trip, looked good!! RRS P460e

255/55/19s will fit just fine on the RRS, in fact that's the tire size Land Rover picks for its own G4 vehicles (although they use the more aggressive GY Wrangler MTRs.) Plenty of rrsport forum members run on that size I believe, and FYI here in the US there is also a "mild" all-terrain Pirelli Scorpion ATR available in 255/55/19 if you are looking for something a tad more aggressive than an all-season tire but not quite as "all out" as the MTR; Not sure if that Pirelli is yet available in your neighborhood, though... Your speedo will be off marginally and you may give up a tiny bit of handling precision due to the extra sidewall, but that's about it. The MTRs are considerably less capable than either the Pirellis or the stock tires on the road, of course.

RJ - Thanks for the info, how long exactly did it take for them to do the install in the end.. The kits states 20 mins, was it much over that?

I live bayside, just a little further north from you (45 mins or so)... Would be good to do a meet, but likely to be Feb now at the earliest.. what about you?

BKHK is further down in Sorrento, so he may be up for a meet too!????

Cheers

Hi Umbertob,

that sounds great, thanks for the info. Very Happy I am currently looking for some decent AT, ATR, ATS (or similar) tyres for my RRS. I was planning on buying some used 18 inch wheels and put offroad-tyres on them due to the lack of decent 19 inch tyres for the car. The Wrangler MTRs are hard to get these days and I really do not need MTs since I will not drive through mud but more on gravel, rocks, etc. when I will go offroading.
Unfortunately they really seem not to be offered here. But since I'll have to go to my friends of TUEV with this tyre size I can also ask them to allow some non-european but american tyres. The Scorpion ATRs are available over here in 255/55R18 so I think this is not the biggest deal. And buying 19 inch tyres (even from the US) is a lot less work to do than buy 18 inch wheels, 18 inch tyres and sell my 19 inch wheels.

Do you know what these Pirellis in 255/55R19 cost in the US? Is there any big online-shop for tyres in the US?

Does anybody here have 255/55R19 on his car in Germany (or a country with similar strict road rules)?

Thanks a lot! Thumbs Up RRS TDV6 HSE, 2006, bonatti grey, ebony interior, rear diff, s/c grille and vents, stormers, privacy, tasmods, iphone integration Wink

I used to import tyres to the UK from tirerack.com I found them very cheap and very professional. Their site is good for researching tyres although obviously has an American slant.

You can easily get the Pirelli Scorpion ATR in 255/55/19 in Europe & the UK. Just call Disco3 site sponsor AJS tyres. Thumbs Up

Even better, great news, thanks! Thumbs Up

It seems the Disco3-forum is great for offroad-topics, I'll have a look there. Cool
For the really important topics i.e. boobies this one is better, of course! Thumbs Up RRS TDV6 HSE, 2006, bonatti grey, ebony interior, rear diff, s/c grille and vents, stormers, privacy, tasmods, iphone integration Wink
