Cobbler, I believe a "chip" is a plug-in unit like a USB stick that has the retune burned to it, easy to remove and you can plug it in or unplug as you like. A remap is re-writing or creating a second file in the engine ECU and has to be done with a laptop or some other portable computer. These are invisible to everybody (ie there is no external hardware like a dongle or USB) and can usually only be detected by interogating the ECU with another computer. Often a remap overwrites the car makers programme and some then get over written if a dealer services the car and upgrades the ECU files with the makers new file - decent remap companies get round this by providing you with a the ability to return the ECU to the remappers tune files 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it 2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced 2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW |
