Phone the customer care dept at LR, (They record all calls) and tell em you think its unreasonable to be expected to pay for these repairs and that your not prepared to accept their position and your going to go legal as this component is not fit for the purpose, Its also worth paying the AA to provide an independant report on the box (£120) and specifically give their opinion as to whether its acceptable to have a failure at this low mileage / age.

If they still refuse to move , tell them that you want the box inspected by a metallargist who will determine what component inside the box caused the failure, tell them that once this is done , you will hand everything to your solicitor to persue them for failing to provide goods of merchandable quality and also persue them for the costs of the AA & Metallargists reports as well as the replacement box.
Ask them to put any response they wish to make in writing to you via email.

That should do it

Mark (dirtybarrys) is that you. Not having too much luck with the old girl. GiveBLRC a shout as they are far better than any dealer.

Thank you for your sugegstion. I've just had a call from LR Customer Services to say that they are reviewing the case, but the person who can make the decision is out at Gaydon for the day. But they will get back to me tomorrow around lunch time.
I'll let you know what they come back with.

Re: New Transfer box

i worked at dealership and know problem is the shaft as a drilled hole to let oil lubricate drive spline, so if you have a problem the latest drive is fitted with lubrication hole.

The clunking noise normally when slow drive off with wheels locked left or right and same in reverse.

To check remove the plug and two 16mm bolts and then try, if no clunks then you need a transfer box.

hope this was helpful.
Yes you will be paying £2500 for a dealer to do but they will also analyse the oil and diff oil.

vinny
