You could try hiring a set of chains (the AA used to do this but not sure if they still do). Or you could borrow any set of chains or buy the cheapest set you can find on ebay - working on the basis that the local rule is that you must carry chains - but no one will ever ask you to fit them. It is very rare to find you would have to actually fit chains unless you deliberately went driving on a completely uncleared / untreated route. Unless of course you were using Continental tyres which have virtually no snow, ice or mud grip at all. Should be ok with Pirelli's or Goodyears. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

Last year I bought a pair of Spike-Spider chains. They are easy to fit, but the lack of snow meant i cannot advise on their performance.

Joka, guess you don't live far from Moakley - why not hire him your set for a week at £40 if not used and £60 if they do get used ? RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

I was hoping for a little fun in the Troodos the other winter but when we got up there it was knee deep off the roads but completely clear on them.

Troodos becomes a fully fledged ski resort in the winter although the actual ski season is relatively short. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award |

I've bought some snow socks last year and tried them on a snow car park as most of the road were clear...Well I must say that with them or without, the Sport handle the same (ie quite good!)

What do you do anyway, if you are using 275/40/R20 for winter tires as well? I haven't found any chains in that size.
