UHF Radio fitting issues

Took my new GME UHF to our local communications specialist only to be sent on my way after a half an hour with the installer throwing his hands up and putting the RRS in the 'too hard' basket.

He took one look at the engine bay and the limited options for mounting the aerial and said that installation could end up costing more than the radio and he honestly didn't know where to start.

Can anyone give me a heads up as to how they installed their UHF and a good referral for someone who knows what they're doing when it comes to RRS installs.

Cheers and thanks in advance. 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6

Not an expert but there is an empty battery compartment in the bonnet area - surely they could fit it there. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

The unit is a small base station with the display and controls all built into the handset so the base needs to be installed either under the seat or under dash.

The two main issues were:

1) Where to fit the aerial (no nudge bar or racks)
2) How to get the cable through the firewall 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6

Jimmy might be worth also asking over at the D3 site, must be quite a few with the radios fitted, cannot be that dissimilar under the bonnet

It definitely is possible...

I've no idea whose car this is as a friend sent me this picture, but there is a D3 in the RRCV that has the same type of number plate mount for their aerial:

2nd that was "rangies" as known on here before he sold it last year. My first outing with the Sport was with him and a very good friend of his who had a very well put together Landcruiser up and around Lithgow and black fellows hand trail they are both in my gallery.

Jimmy you can ping him on http://forum.australia4wd.com/index.php?act=home his tag is Bungee on that site, now drives a Prado

thx 2nd and Zilch for follow-up.

Looks like a reasonably simple solution - will be interested to hear if there was a standard fitting or whether he had something fabricated which is what I've been investigating today.

Cheers and Beers
