England 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Bonatti Grey
Good Deal?

Hi,

Im looking for a range rover sport 2.7tdv6 s and seen a 06 reg with 22,000 miles on the clock for £23,450, no leather and smaller alloys nice colour though buckingham blue with privacy glass, my question is do you think this is a fair price and would it be foolish to buy one without leather? im thinking it would be harder to sell come re-sale time?

I have made up my mind on the sport however anyone think i should wait as the values seem to be dropping what with the current climate and all that, any advice would be appreciated,

Thanks

Absolutely require leather if you are thinking about resale, however, if you plan to keep it for a number of years it is probably worth the sacrifice.............

WRT resale values - yes indeed they have slid, but so has every other manufacturers, you can thank the oil prices and scaremongerers out there within our respective gov'ts for that....who said brainwashing is dead Exclamation Question

If the current slide retains its momento, LR Ltd will be in serious trouble come this time next year..........unless of course you would be happy loosing 2/3 of the cars price in 24 months Shocked Shocked

200,000 + units for 3 years in a row.................might just end up 75,000 units or less if the current trend continues and that = a disasterous business model however you do the math Big Cry

It seems the sharks are circling both outside and inside of the trade at the moment........which for current owners is not looking the best of news.

If you are planning to buy new - ask the dealer that very question - how much will I retain after 2 years based on current market trend........I am positive the answer WILL NOT be what you are expecting. Big Cry L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!

That is cheap, but it will just keep dropping. Will you're 100% bang on, been speaking to a lot of dealers and people in the trade and they just have never seen anything like it.

Not just LR though.. Jay how was that Bmw auction you went to last week mate? bordering on ridiculous.. i lost £9k on my M3 i 6 months and i was lucky to jump ship when i did.. still dropping. My 7 was £57k list, and with 4k miles i got it for £33.5k (retail cap price: £37k)... and mine's a diesel, don't even know what its worth now!

To be fair, the sports have been outperforming the market for a long time. Buy a Q7 4.2 petrol and you'd be a lot worse off then you are now Will, or X5 petrol, ML Petrol etc etc.. even the diesels have been hit harder then everything else.. Lets see what happens next!

Tough times for the trade, but plenty of bargains to be had if you happen to be buying for the long term Thumbs Up Agree with WW though, it doesn't want to carry on like this for too long.

I would think leather is a must on this type of car.

Maybe not an arguement as far as residuals but come time to move it on, maybe a lot of people would pick one of the MANY with leather over one without.

This would in turn obviously mean you have to 'Price it competitively' to move it on again meaning you lose a big chunk. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

It does sound cheap.... that's about what it should be trade for!

I agree that the S is probably the most difficult to resell, however you may want to keep it for ever and a day, which means proportionally the residule value will not be important. It's the cost of ownership that should be looked at (purchase price less sale price), and if you can pourchase low then you're in a better position to keep the ownership cost down. Residuals aside, that is a keen price, therfore it looks like you could make the saving at the begining.

A suggestion is once out of warranty you could look at larger wheels (lots of 18" and 19" available) plus there are a few companies who can offer replacement seat covers for leather for between £1200 and £1700. I'm sure that there are plenty of forum members who can offer advice on this.

Obviously if something looks too good to be true then it is worth making extra checks into the vehicles provinance and history, as sadly somethings they are too good to be true.

Good luck!

James Thumbs Up

I was wondering if the Finance companies were also set to take a hit Question Especially the PCP schemes where the customer has the option to walk away at the end of the term.

I was planning to keep mine as I shall be retiring then. But if prices keep going down it might work out beneficial to walk away and get a newer model for less money. Now that would be good Thumbs Up TDV6 - gone

Yep they will take a hit on that! but thats what you have been paying the extra APR for on your PCP type agreement so they have their end covered..

I think it will start to level within 6 months or so.. new models will be delayed, production will slow etc etc.. just a problem right now as there is a lot of stock sitting around and no money floating about to pay for them all!

Thanks for the advice its much appreciated.

I suppose I need to look at it like this, I will hopefully be keeping the car for at least 3 years, it has a cheap insurance group (13) , its relatively cheap to buy compared with new and the 2.7 is as economical as its going to get in a big 4x4. So all in all its not a bad motoring proposition.

The car not having leather is not really an issue for me but I understand that this would affect value come re-sale time, I would definitely upgrade the wheels most probably to some used HSE wheels off ebay as you can pick up a set for around £400 and would definitely improve the look of the car over the 17’s !!! ( would the warranty still be ok if I swapped the wheels for genuine land rover alloys?)

I may go for it or give it a month or 2 and watch the market closely as im sure this wont be the only competitively priced S about???

Mikey,

As long as it has the newer dappened steering rack then it shouldn't be a problem putting bigger wheels on it. There were issues with early models that needed the rack changing for bigger wheels to be fitted.

But now you are going to ask....How do I know if its got the right rack on it Question

Too techy for me. But I'm sure it's been discussed before or someone will be a long soon with the answer.

I know that HSE 06 models had the new rack as standard cos I had one then. But I don't know if that was the case for the S spec models. TDV6 - gone

Yes, plus a lot of clients have issue with the fact they have put a sizeable deposit down on the car and hence walk away from any equity they may have placed into the car.. but as you said.. if the car isn't even worth the balloon its probably going to be hard to claw back any equity unless you refinance and just pay the car off to £0 within a year or something quite heavy like that and then build up a cash balance in the car for changeover time.

Lease purchase agreements nowadays have Voluntary Termination rights built in thanks to the change in CCA 2007, so basically people are mostly covered anyway subject to the car being well within the mileage/condition allowances on the agreement.
