Manual Gear Shifting vs Brake Pads?

Have a SC which I took delivery of last week. The dealer (salesman) suggested stretching the brake pads' life by routinely slowing through changing down gears. My mechanic (albeit not for the RRS) didn't like the sound of that. Any suggestions or expert opinion please????

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Rimini Red

Madeagle, the usual wisdom on this matter is that brake pads are designed to be used to slow down the vehicle and easily replaced (at modest cost). The gearbox isn't....

But wise man he say, a bit of both does no harm RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

I always drive my Supercharged in "SPORT" mode ..... it uses the gearbox better .. esp. when slowing down !
