Here in the US, the dealer can easily activate the DRL's for you; it is not user switchable to the best of my knowledge.

Yes, your dealer should be able to activate/deactivate the Daytime Running Lights. Malaysia Boleh!

Yes, a service technical should be able to enable this via Test Book. Your service department could charge you labor, depending on their policiies and if they aren't nice. |

Well I like to have my lights on all the time whilst I am driving, that way I can be seen by some of the people who drive around with their heads not on what they are doing and anything that gives me an edge in being seen can only be a bonus. I don't want my nice new car scratched or dented. Proud owner 2014 Loire Blue HSE (the auto profile has not caught up yet)

Fair enough. Now be prepared for those folks with their heads not on to flash you because they think your Xenons are just badly levelled halogens

Isn't there some sort of legality issue in the UK with regards to DRLs? Or is that just for using the amber hazard lamps as per the US?

Can't say I've noticed recently but do UK spec Volvos and Saabs still have DRLs? They always used to but can't say I've noticed recently. If they're allowed to do it, I assume it's legal... unless it's a "country of manufacture" thing.

Didn't the EU just pass a law that in the near future all EU vehicles had to have DRL's?

Yes, supposedly that law would require all new cars sold in the member states to have DRLs by 2015. Then there'll be a few more years while the UK ignores it, of course

Having just given up a BMW 530 which had DRL's and prior to that I have had a Saab and Volvo with DRL's so I am used to having them and have never had a lot of people flash me.

Probably as many as you see driving in perfectly clear conditions with their foglights blazing I get plenty of people flash me when I have my dipped lights on - I have done ever since I've had cars with Xenons, so that's the RRS, my previous 5 series and my M3. I must live in an area full of simpletons
