As I intend keeping my RRSC for at least 7 years (the term of the warranty, extended) one of my next projects is to make the interior as quiet as possible.

The whole roll weighs about a pound (0.5 kg) and it should take no more than 3 rolls. Some might say it is not heavy enough, but I did my Rover 420 over in England and made an amazing difference. The key place to do and the worst to get at is the engine side of the firewall. . . . Come for a visit, Victoria is beautiful! |

a DiYer across the pond lightly soundproofed all doors using Dynamat, which is probably quite a bit more expensive than the material you are looking at but very effective. I never got to do it on my Sport, but I suspect soundproofing the doors would be very beneficial in the performance and bass response of the sound system (which I find a bit boomy out of the factory Logic7 system, along with some vibrations and rattles from the doors when playing bass-heavy music at relatively high volume), besides making the ride a bit quieter of course:

Thanks Umbertob, I have bookmarked the links for handy reference. No question that Dynamat or similar might do a somewhat better job, but it would add a lot of weight and it is much more expensive - about $10 per sq.ft. compared to $1 per sq.ft. for the camping foam. I think I can only apply the 1cm thick camping foam to the outer door panels; if so, an improvement would be made by some dynamat on the inner door panels. I might even try a spreader on some some rubber/acrylic sealer (like a tube of Mono) which at 2mm thickness would work out at about $2 per sq.ft. I wasn't able to buy a RRSC by chucking money away! . . . Come for a visit, Victoria is beautiful! |

Al, I get the feeling that you are happiest when you have some panels to remove! ![]() Did you do a sound check before? I think the interior noise on the TDV6 is 72dB standard. Be interesting to see if you can improve that. Not sure at what speed / road surface etc they take the reading on, but I'm sure it's covered in some Auto standard. Hey, that is a really good point! Recently I saw a sound level meter very cheap in WalMart. I will pick one up and do some recording trials before proceeding further. Thanks. . . Come for a visit, Victoria is beautiful! |
