Had my spare wheel stolen!

Hi

Ive just discovered this excellent forum .....

Ive had my 56 plate RRSport V6HSE for 3 months .. Had a 55 plate RRSport HSE for 9 months before this one but had too many problems with it and after a lot of fighting managed to get the dealer to exchange it for a brand new RR sport ... but thats a different story!

Anyway returned home one eve last week and happened to be walking back up my drive and noticed the spare wheel was missing - i had been driving the car all day and hadnt noticed before. I looked under the car and forund that the whole wheel had been removed .... spoke to my dealer who told me that they had heard of this before - ive had the wheel replaced but is there anyway of avoiding this happening again?? Has anyone else heard of this happening?

Thanks

Was anything cut to remove it?

Would have thought if the cradle was tight it would be very hard to remove the wheel.

Welcome BTW Razz

First time I've heard this. You can get a cover for the spare wheel which might deter thieves but I don't think there is a way to stop this happening again. BTW it would be very difficult to nick the wheel unless the spare was put in the wrong way around. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Welcome,

New one on me too. As long as the supporting cable is wound all the way back in, I'd have said it was virtually impossible to steal it though?

Hi

Thanks for your replies

The spare wheel had never been used so was fitted correctly and no they were after the whole wheel as the spare is a normal alloy!

Cost to replace was £700!!

And to make matters worse my wife has just filled it with unleaded .. luckily she realised after putting £25 of unleaded in the car and didnt even turn the key so hopefully its a quick fix ... our dealer has just told me £500 .... but if she had driven it would be more like £6000

Whoops... not a good week for you then generally. I hope Mrs Simonw gets the appropriate punishment (being hung upside down by the toenails usually does it) Wink

I thought we'd heard this on here before about the spare...? I followed a sport recently and noticed missing spare but all 4 alloys were fitted ( which voided the theory that he'd had a flat...)

It's worth getting a missing spare reinstated asap, as it forms part of the cars rear crash protection Very Happy

Does that mean that a...wait for it.... LPG conversion using the spare wheel well is a no-no?

I suppose so, yes... it's an interesting point that you raise actually. I've seen that they use the spare wheel cavity for the LPG tank in RRS conversions. I wonder what LRs stance is on that? And also, insurance companies?

Unless like me he has a proper alloy as a spare, and after he changed his flat he put it in the boot, thats what i would do then let the garage fix it and put it back ubderneath Thumbs Up some of my Previous cars
