4x4 Hatred.., the debate continues!

Hooray! Today's Sunday Times Magazine raises a slight case in our defence. Not only does it state that the hatred of 4x4s is a "class issue", but also points out "if all 4x4s were taken off the road tomorrow, the effect on emmissions would be minimal."

4x4s only account for 7.5% of the car market. MPVs are worse on emissions, although socially acceptable(?), and fast cars are much higher (ie Buggati Veyron 547g and Ferrari Scalietti 475g). Indeed, the alternative choice to a 4x4 is often a high-emmissions saloon car (Modeo diesel 159g), hardly environmentally friendly?

It goes on to say "The Chrysler Voyager, for example, emits 303g. Luxury cars are just as bad. The mercedes S600 emits 355g and the BMW7 series rises to 337g. Why, then, are 4x4s singled out?" GOOD QUESTION!

It concludes "Attacking 4x4s, therefore, is a way of reinstating the trend towards lower emmissions drawing attention to the issue. The fact that 4x4 fits neatly into a headline is definite plus." In other words, we're the bloody scapegoats!!!!
