New Windshield

Anybody had to replace one? I now have three rock chips (trucks clearing hurricane debris) and assume I'll have to get a new one soon. Will I have to take out a second mortgage to pay for it? BTW, my electronic toll tag still doesn't work and I've tried it in several places on the windshield. Any suggestions? Thanks and Merry Christmas to all! Problems with toll tags are due to the Athermic screen, which is not actually a UV protection as per BMW models and Mercs, but I think the front screen heating wires prevent clear signals from these and other GPS based devices such as Speed camera detectors here in the UK.

Try looking for a spot where the concentration of the heating wires is less. Somewhere around the rear view mirror housing seems to be a favourite place. L319 D4 HSE

How about on your rear window or is this just a stupid suggestion because of the way these things need to be read? 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Yeah but still if these things transmit a radio signal surely if they are attached to the rear side or the rear window a signal should still be able to be picked up - I could understand the problem is they wer IR. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

The windscreen issue is an odd one, I have heard dealers telling owners that Road Angels won't work, yet mine works fine.

I guess you have to look at how often you go through the electronic checkpoint and if there is an alternative like holding it against the side window or even opening the window and flashing it.

Having never had one of these devices I can't comment from any experience. L319 D4 HSE

Rear window (the fixed portion driver's side) might be an option. I'll try it. Our tags have to be fixed so simply holding it up won't work. Thanks for the suggestions. Any responses to my question about having to replace the front windscreen due to multiple chips? '06 RRS HSE Chawton White/Alpaca Lux/PTI/Sirius

Your insurance should replace it, that is probably the cheapest option. It would be best to put the claim in now so you have the part in 3 months. LRNA are pathetic at best trying to get parts.

What about putting the toll booth thing in the sunroof?

I put it in the sunroof when I have to pass a toll. It seems to work that way. Some states do not have insurance that covers windshields or do at a good premium. I had to replace one on my 98 Range Rover and it was well over $1000. 2006 RRS HSE, Chawton White, Alpaca with Cherry Wood Trim (Luxury Interior Pkg)

Zipperman19 and rhodyrover - Brilliant! Sun roof worked great and the tag is now out of my line of sight, too. Simply, brilliant. Thanks. tlw '06 RRS HSE Chawton White/Alpaca Lux/PTI/Sirius
