Software for Mac - Quark!

My mother dabbles in design and needs software like Quark Xpress. Quark costs a fortune and is too powerful fro what she does, can anyone one recommend some software similar to Quark (excluding Appleworks) that works on a Mac runing on OSX? Cheap or free would be good too! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
