Ash tray issues

In my car the ashtray lid no longer closes - it actually never closed once it was opened. i can keep on pressing the lid down but it immediately opens up - it's like as if there's nothing to hold it down (other than a piece of gum) - i have seen the same in 3!! dealer cars... Anybody else has this? - Robert

Ash Tray Issue

Yep. I am having it as well! Actually-if you hit the thing about 10 times real quickly it will lock (at least mine did). Good Luck!

Same issue here.
Lid will stay closed occasionally, but mostly wants to flip back up.
Waiting for dealer to find out what can be done to rectify problem.

Drove by the dealership today and asked the service manager: they have ordered a complete new console.....

He did tell me that if you push on the left side and push the lid rightwards while closing, it actually closes.... It didn't seem to be the first time they had this issue.... - Robert

Tried opening the ash tray on the show room RR Sport at the local dealers and what ever I did I could not get it to stay closed again.

Let's hope these are the only scale of any problems that arise... I can live with this, though perhaps by the September build it will have been rectified. L319 D4 HSE

Ps sound like yourself and NickP are not too far from Nuneaton? Come Sept/Oct we could have that mini meet as you suggested on another thread.

I'll probably regret asking this.................... Laughing
Does anybody fancy starting/ joining an owners/ admirers club?
The Freelander Club was started by a couple who loved them, and it has gone from strength to strength using a free egroup on Yahoo and now has meets all over the UK, runs stands at most of the Land Rover shows and gets discounts from particpating dealers, aftermarket suppliers like Rimmer Bros and discounts on things like entry to the Motor hertitage Centre at Gaydon, Land Rover Experience centres and so on.

My quoted build completion date is Sep 28th, though they reckon it may arrive sooner, by about a week or so, I hope it does.

A mini meet sounds good, guess it will be in Oct sometime. L319 D4 HSE

Mine does the same. I found by gripping the lid and pulling up whilst closing does the trick. Also, push left edge and it closes.

Fix is to replace centre console - OMG! Don't really want to do that, as my TDv6 arrived with the black lined oak and it matches the (black) paint.

I did notice some of the trim comes in very large lumps (i.e the trays under the dashboard top seem to be part of the dash top). No doubt keeps creaks to a minimum, but expensive to repair small parts.
