iPod - a step forward!

This is taken from the LR USA site - hope this is a retro fit and UK available.

AUDIO CONNECTIVITY MODULE - COMING SOON 2007!

The Audio Connectivity module portal, neatly located in the center armrest, delivers high quality sound and exceptional ease of use. Allowing connection of an iPod®, MP3, USB or other digital audio device, the system plays back and is controlled through the standard stereo head unit of the In-Car Entertainment system. Connection is simple using the cable provided and a choice of ports for iPod®, USB or Auxiliary interfaces. There are no stray cables visible inside the car and the center armrest provides a safe and secure place to store whichever digital audio device is connected. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

England 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

VA, Fantastic News! Very Happy Razz Very Happy Razz Very Happy

I've been waiting for one of these for ages, but was hoping that it would be sited in the glove-box. I have PTI with a cradle and a cooler box, so there's hardly enough room for my 'generic MP4 player case' let alone my 'generic MP4 player itself'!

Did it say anything like "Not available with a factory phone cradle and/or a cooler box."

It would be just my luck if I can't have it! Sad TDV8 HSE in Java/Ebony with Zebrano Wood, RSE, Hybrid TV, and a few other bells and whistles.

About time, although I bet it'll be a flawed implementation that just won't quite work right Sad Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

Probably not compatible with vehicles that are likely to venture off road Laughing

BTW - why can't they come up with a simple connection device like this that is a bluetooth upgrade Confused you know what I mean - will enable bluetooth connection better than we already get - which will then liase with car as if fully connected & provide such things as full phone book access ............................ we can only dream Sad

I'm interested to see how this is integrated as

Quote:
Fairplay, the Apple DRM system, was conceived as a closed system and only works with Apple devices and software; it is never licensed or made available for integration by other vendors. As such, content purchased from iTunes can only be played out directly off iTunes from the PC or Mac

this is the reason why Ipods never integrate properly

I wonder whats changed??

The iPod serial connection protocol is well known though, and very powerful when used correctly Smile Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

United States 2006 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Chawton White

The 2007 Jag XJ offers the same Audio Connectivity Module as an add-on already... The description on Jaguar's web site is identical to the one on LR's, and given the similarities between Jaguar and Land Rover's infotainment systems, I am almost willing to bet this is the same implementation. There are installation instructions of this module posted on Jaguar's owner info web site ( www.ownerinfo.jaguar.com ), and according to those the module emulates a CD changer...

It appears to be a step in the right direction, but it only allows direct access to the first 4 playlists, and no titles shown on the vehicle display Sad

The unit appears to be the Dension IceLink Gateway - either the 400 or 500 depending on whether it's using MOST or not. Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

Martin,

Its well known but never released to any third part company

Quote:
The only major company to have engineered a software solution to get around this was Real Networks who were taken to court by Apple and no longer offer the solution - others who claim full iPod integration, including Apple DRM, can only do this through the serial interface on the iPod.

There is some dicussion regarding whether this is anti-competitive and I believe the EU will make a ruling in the next 12 months or so.

If Apple aren't careful MediaPlayer technology from Microsoft may come and spoil the party - they are already making in roads into the Media Server market (currently dominated by Imerge)

I'm very interested in it as it effects my systems directly - currently I cant offer any truely integrated Ipod solutions to my customers
