Dirty Alloys

This may well have been discussed in the past. I know there is an issue with alloy wheel damage however my wheels seem to be impregnated with road grime. No matter how hard you scrub the stubborn black marks will not come off. All 4 wheels are affected and have been for a while.

It look like the alloys were never laquered (if thats what they do) and therefore grime gets into the surface.

This common or just mine ? MY10 TDV6 HSE, Alaska White, Ebony with Contrast, Park Heat, Paddle Shift, Privacy, Heated Steering Wheel, Extended & Premium Leather,

I am having the same problem with my "winter" 19" wheels. Is the "Muc Off" you use the same as the Muc Off sold to clean bikes?

Does it really work? I need some bike cleaner and have been looking at this stuff...if it will perform double duty...then it's worth it! I use some stuff bought from a cheap stuff in town on the Freelander. A good clean doesn't cost more than £2.50, thats for exterior shampoo, polish, interior cleaner and alloy cleaner Cool 2002 Discovery Adventurer LE

I used to have he same problem on my M5, landlord, it was dust/particles from the brake pads they were so hot that they would melt the lacquer on the alloy wheels and then sit there and look like black marks on the wheels. i cured it by having the lacquer stripped and the wheels polished, and left in a polished state, pain in the Ass keep polishing though, but it did cure it.

That might be your problem, just a thought some of my Previous cars

Same problem on mine. Brake dust started to pit into the alloy after a few thousand miles. This is despite me cleaning the car every weekend; using P21s and none of this phosphoric acid stuff.

Went to the local LR dealer. They cleaned them (with acid), couldn't get all the dark dust out of the little pits either, but said LR probably wouldn't listen.

Worst wheels I've ever had.

Not happy.

Beginning to make sense - the hot dust theory seems like it might be the reason. Certainly looks like the alloys are pitted. Its going into LR next week for the seats will mention it then ! MY10 TDV6 HSE, Alaska White, Ebony with Contrast, Park Heat, Paddle Shift, Privacy, Heated Steering Wheel, Extended & Premium Leather,

Like MDP, I've used Wonder Wheels on the alloys and it brings 'em up a treat. Bit of hard work, perhaps, but the bad news is they go back to crap within a few thousand miles. Best keep that East Eurpoean handy!!! Wink
