After 19000 miles looks like I'll need some new brake pads. Does anyone know an approximate figure for this work? 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

I was speaking to my non franchise L/R repair garage today about my drowned landy, and i asked him about replacement brake pads for the sport, although he hasnt fitted any as yet he has done a full set on a D3, he reckons to use origianal parts, only because of warranty issues and the cost for the front including fitting is about £100.00. I bet thats cheaper the the stealers some of my Previous cars

VA, your London dealers are charging the same labour rate as my Scottish Rural dealers....................... I smell a cartel somewhere! Oh and you forgot to add the VAT onto that! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

You might be right Tim. The funny thing is that when another member of this forum had some work done he rang around and got a better price from a nearby dealer, he then told his dealer the price quoted and was told that they would match it. That's OK but the dodgy part is that when the member went to pay for the work done his dealer was reluctant to honour it because 'the other dealer was not following LR guide prices' (not exact words) This stinks and does look like price fixing. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

The local non franchise Land Rover specialist who looks after my Defender has just put his hourly rate up from £25 to £28.................... mainly because he has moved into a sparkling new building that allows him to work on 4 cars at once instead of the 2 that he could handle before. He has a waiting list of owners wanting their cars serviced, and that includes every sort of Landy right up to fairly recent models that have now come to the end of their warranty period. Some of these independent service guys have facilities as good as the main dealers and the local guy only fits genuine LR parts, so why do dealers have to charge so much? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Tim my local Landy garage have just put there hourly rate up to £45.00 per hour aswell, same reason i think plus hes just invested a lot of money in computers and the soft ware for modern Landys. The dealers charge higher prices because of there fancy premises and they also pay quite good wages, but mainly because of the manufacturers pricing structure.

As an ex-pat, I am constantly amazed at the price of everything in the UK anymore! 120 GBP/hour for an official LR labour rate? Christ almighty! Here in Kansas City, the rate for LR or Porsche, etc. service is about $100/hour at an official dealership; about 1/2 of your rates at current exchange rates.

It all depends on their hourly rate. I was charged for 2 hours but I think LR standard is 1 hour, would be interested in how many hours you get charged for. In total inc VAT I think it was £400. My dealer charged £125 PH. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
