Help needed please

Guy's I have been having trouble with my 4.4 Vouge it's an 03 which I purchased new so know how it has been driven (no comments please). Whistle

The problem is it is using about 6 to 8 litres of oil every 1000 miles, it has been in to the dealer on numerous occasions regarding this and can't seem to find what is wrong. I have just gone out to check and the bloody thing is empty again, it doesn't smoke or leak so where is it going???

Have rung the dealer at lunch will ring back, so thought I would ask here for your help. Thank you Bow down

Holy smokes that's a lot of oil per 1000 miles !

If it's not leaking, then its going somewhere. Check the rear of the car near the exhausts. Does it seem dirtier or greasy? Is there are any smoke under hard acceleration. These would indicate its being burnt off.

Is the dipstick correct?

I've not had this before or heard of it but I'd suggest you put the same post on rangereovers.net forum too, if you haven't already

This is the sort of thing you'd expect from the old P38 4.6 unit shortly before it went bang. I thought the 4.4 was fairly reliable though. I suppose it's no longer in warranty either is it, Misery?

That is a hell of a lot of oil Shocked
Would have thought if the car was looked at by the dealer while it was in warranty then just because they could not find the fault the 'claim' should carry on past the expiry date.
Friend of mine in the trade 'made up' a problem to extend the warranty on his E class Merc years ago
If you get no joy from the dealer I would get onto LRCS

Thanks guy's I was taking it to the event tomorrow so thought I would take a look nothing showing on thew dip stick at all. As I say the dealer has had it back to see what is going on they can find nothing.

No smoke, no leaks no typical signs at all. I have got the extended warranty but that runs out in April and that is it. I thought that to if the problem was there before the end of the warranty shouldn't it still be covered.

They say not to worry that even if there is no oil level showing there is still plenty in the sump, but my concern is what happens if it goes bang??

I can't afford to keep putting that amount of oil in the thing, I have the 5 year free service plan so it has been serviced on time evry time, I need to get this sorted.

What sort of response is "don't worry there's plenty in the sump"? Evil or Very Mad

There's obviously a problem - I'd leave it with them until it's dealt with (or take it somewhere else that's willing to have a look - have you got a local LR independent?)

Take it to JE Engineering - let them strip it down & locate the problem - then pass the bill to LR & name and shame the local dealer

I'd willingly do that MDP, but for how much.

The dealer has told me to ring the LR assistants which I have done am waiting for one of the guys to come out. My service manager looked her up and the last time she was in I had used 7 litres of oil in 800 miles, I have only done 895 miles since the service dept had her the last time.
