Hmm, good question. They say it's all about Brown setting out his "green" credentials, but it's not going to win him any votes come election time. Someone should run over him in their Hummer.

Did anybody hear the GB interview with James Naughtie on Today on R4 this morning? He totally avoided answering any of the questions that the pensioner wanted answered and told us all about how brilliantly he, the Chancellor, had made our economy............................... he won't be getting many pensioner voters on the strength of his replies! Somebody emailed the programme and suggested that all pensions should be increased in line with MP's pay - why just pensioners, I wish my payrises reflected MP's, civil servants and local goverement employees payrises. Last year I was grudgingly offered 1% conditional on giving up 21 days of my 182 days a year leave to going on training courses and head office visits, it has worked out at no payrise at all. This year we were offered 0.5% but on reflection (threat of a strike!)the senior bods in the office claimed they had made a mistake in the calculations and managed to find 2.5% - this from a company that has just made $5 billion profit!!

Pelyma - you should be grateful that you only have to pay 40%................ I am resident in the UK, employed through the Germany offices a Dutch based company owned in Denmark. Thankfully the companies are all based in the EU and, as a seafarer there are special rules for us so I can choose which country's tax I pay and the UK's is the least for me by a long way!
