I bet you will have a job on your hands with the insurance company - unfortunately it looks like the car isn't a write off and so I doubt they will give you the full value of the car. Let us know and best of luck. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

So far the insurance company have been OK. The picture doesn't show the full extent of the damage. Every panel on the other side is damaged and the chassis appears to be damaged.

The big problem for the Insurers is, believe it or not, the potential claim from the family of the deceased. this apparently is a quirk of the insurance industry. Obviously I wish the family all the very best. Their loss is far greater than mine!

Trouble with CCTV and all the other obvious deterrents is that unless they are covert, in some ways you are almost advertising that you have something worth nicking.

If your car is in the road or driveway then its pretty obvious what you have– but with the brainless, selfish and arrogant bunch of cowards that carry out this type of crime don’t you, in some way want them off your property and if its with your car, probably better than some of the alternatives that come to mind.

I’m rambling more than making a point, must be my age, but it seems that there is little deterrent for this type of crime, a slap of the wrist, a week at Butlins, or even better go inside and then sue the government for not supplying the correct drugs, a suitable pillow and a LCD TV to watch whilst your meals are made for you!

Now where did I put my 12 bore?

chomper - Yes you will have your no claims hit a bit and no doubt the c**ts that caused this will have nothing more than a slap on the wrist and continue to receive benefits etc. Why oh why cann't this country be tougher on those who which to do wrong! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

It seems we're all pretty passionate about this whole sorry saga. It really makes you want to get hold of the individuals and.................. anyway, the story has been in the press so hopefully they've seen it and are struggling to deal with what they've done to all.

In October last year my wife and I woke to noises of someone breaking in to the house, and upon looking out of the wondow we saw two scallys. We turned all the lights on upstairs, and I opened the window and shouted back to my wife that "it's ok the police will be here in less than 2 mins". This did the trick and they fled.

After 30 mins the police did arrive, told me that I must have been followed (as we live in a remote village), and then off they went without so much as filling in a report.

My wife and I have been totally paranoid since than and it's taken a good tear to sleep properly. So as a result it has affected us badly without the car actually going.

WHAT DO YOU DO? - Lots of good ideas, but there is one biggie; Whatever you do, don't make it more difficult for them to take your car, but make it as unattractive as possible to even try. Last thing you want is a shotgun in your face shouting at you for the keys.

If they do get into my house they will find the keys, however, they will see the following and will hopefully not bother:

CCTV front and rear with very obvious infared diodes at night.
1500w flood lights on all sides of the property.
Car blocked in by another.
6ft fence around side and rear of property
Alarm on the house set downstairs at night with box and flashing lights outside.
Beware of the dog signs, and a dog of course.
CCTV signs.
All internal doors closed (and those that lock are locked.
Blinds and curtains shut so they can't see who/what is inside.
Few lights left on.

Also the car has a NavTrak system that even I can see where it is at any time over the net via GPS.

So far touch wood no other incidents!

Good luck with everything and I'm sure everyone is with me in saying that I hope justice is done, and soon, and the most suitable punishment given. TDV8 HSE in Java/Ebony with Zebrano Wood, RSE, Hybrid TV, and a few other bells and whistles.

Hmmmm...The RRS already has a key pad....Someone needs to design a PIN code system so you need to put the key in and enter the pin to start the car...

Although I guess that wouldn't stop these ar*eholes 'asking' you for the PIN...!!

On the subject of gates, if you do have them, make sure you need to click your remote dubry thing to get out as well, otherwise they can simply drive up to it and away.....(!)...

But then again...how difficult do you want to make your own life to deter these 'people'...tough balance...

S.

I think the tracker systems have to be the way to go, at least that way plod have a chance of catching the b------s and recovering the car.
I have a friend who is a large store manager that gets targeted quite a lot as it is near the A1 and pretty isolated.
They have great CCTV and get very good pictures of the Censored as they raid the store, not once has it ever helped in a prosecution Rolling Eyes
