I would check the local law in the country you are visiting - I think they might be mandatory in Austria in the winter. Roland will be able to tell you ![]() 2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced 2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW |

No need to carry snowchains since they are normally not mandatory but police can close a mountain pass for all vehicles except for those equipped with snowchains. This holds true for all alpine countries (CH, F, It, Ger, Aus)

Hi Roland. I am coming over to Villars over christmas I have not ever had any problems with the road been closed but there is always the risk, Snow chains are just too difficult to get when you have 20" stormer wheels fitted and i dont want to buy extra wheels just for a couple of trips to there each year.

Neil, under normal circumstances you'll be fine and as you say, they will see to it that the village remains accessible. And should the worst come to the worst and Villars gets snowed in, which does happen once or twice every winter, you can park your car safely somewhere in the valley and a free shuttle bus will get you up there. |
