I’ve recently traded my Velar in for a RRS. Both had the 825W Meridian sound system. I was a bit disappointed as the sound system in the RRS didn’t sound as good as the Velar.

At first I was thinking of replacing the amp, the 4x8 inch woofers in the door and the sub in the boot with the 1700W version, maybe even another sub in the boot.The main issue was the sound was a bit muddy/boomy, especially at higher volume with bass turned up.

I thought I would try applying dynamat and soundproofing doors as a start then replace the speakers if required.

I’ve now done all 4 doors and the boot, and it has made a phenomenal difference. I would say it was like a whole new system. Bass is rich at lower frequencies on songs like Chris Jones ‘No Sanctuary’ and punchy on Another One Bites the Dust.
I definitely don’t think new speakers or a supplementary sub is necessary now. M not sure why it’s made it so much better. Maybe it’s resonance, vibration, lack of pressure in the door cavity. Either way, I can now turn the bass and sub volumes up and it sounds great.

Upgrading the amp and adding the subwoofer is a good addition - just depends if you can find the correct AMP on fleabay.

I don't think i would want to now. The improvement made by the soundproofing has been astonishing. I am more than happy with the 825W now. Considering the outlay of only a couple of hundred pounds its probably the best improvement you can make.. bang for buck. Evoque HSE Dynamic
