Tyre Advice - Two New Tyres Needed.

Morning All,

The Sport needs two new front tyres (275/40/20) and it's currently running Pirelli Scorpion Zero tyres all round - it had these on when I brought it. The rears are currently fine so do not necessarily need replacing but when doing a search I am struggling to find the same named 'Scorpion Zero' tyres. P Zeros pop up but I'm not sure whether that is a different tread pattern or not and whether that even matters?

I understand that ideally you would have the same tyres on each corner but realistically is it going to matter if I change brand and put something different on the front? If so, are there any recommendations? The car doesn't do any off roading and I spend a lot of time driving up and down motorways (if that makes any difference).

Many thanks in advance!

The Scorpion family is basically the SUV / all terrain / all weather part of Pirelli's range. There is a separate P Zero family which is very much designed for sporty road driving. It's not helped by them having a Scorpion Zero in the Scorpion family, nor that they do P Zero suitable for performance SUVs as this muddies the water somewhat.

The Scorpion Zero has many more sipes than the P Zero range does and I'd expect the P Zero range to have higher grip, especially in summer conditions (and, conversely, the P Zero to perform less well in colder conditions as the Scorpion is designed to work across all conditions). So I'd be loathe to have P Zero at one end, Scorpion Zero at the other.

For normal pootling around it probably wouldn't matter, frankly, but it's those moments when you need the thing to respond as a piece that you don't want to find one end throwing a fit on you. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
