The reality is that there are an awful lot of LR TDV6 out there on the roads because it was the dominant engine in the "big 3" (FFRR, RRS, Disco) for a number of years. In the years 2009 - 2019, LR sold nearly 750k RRS. The majority of those will have been a TDV6 of some form - the V8s weren't the major sellers.

So there are likely 1m or more TDV6 of various forms out there meaning the stories we hear - albeit they are scary and we all feel sorry for those affected - aren't evidence that every TDV6 is a hand grenade waiting to explode. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Owned it from new, still got it, demoted to the Mrs's daily as I now have a L405 SVA Lwb with the 4.4 SDV8, that hasn't been so reliable (spun a main bearing, followed by a world of pain).
