Exhaust leak?

Hey guys - over the last few weeks I’ve noticed a small ticky type noise on driving coming from someone low in the cabin, thought it to be the cold weather and short journeys so thought nothing of it- just drove to Manchester airport 2 hours straight driving was lovely and smooth , but as I parked up my wife opened the passenger door and all I could hear was a louder tappy / puff puff type noise , so parked up with the engine running and lifted the bonnet and I could smell exhaust fumes - seems to be the passenger side of the engine - bad leaky gasket? I had both engine manifolds done about a year ago and I’m not getting the loss of power restricted performance error so I’m guessing more exhaust based?

Any ideas?

Sounds like an injector copper washer has failed, try lifting some of the sound deadening on the nearside bank and see if you can see any residue or see any blow by with the engine running.

Thanks just seen can be a common problem on the injectors - Cars going into drop n go car park tomorrow for 2 and bit weeks so will give it a check over when I get home. Presume car will be okay to drive home again - about a 2 hour drive.

I'd say so, I drove back from the French Alps, approx 1k without any issue, just a bit of fumes in stationery traffic. Easy enough repair, replace the copper washer and o rings as well as the clamp plate and bolts to be sure of a 100% fix. Not expensive for gen parts.

Thanks man will have a look - car is in airport car park for 2 weeks now so will check it when get back - either that or a loose exhaust clamp? Definitely a puft puft type noise that gets faster with accelerator around the passenger side of the engine - cabin had a strong smell this morning when drove from hotel to airport car park

The crossover pipes are a bit prone to cracking also, but if the sounds the same when the engine is warm I'd say a copper washer, as usually if the crossover is cracked they tend to seal a bit better when warmed up.

Hope it's the injector, it's easier and cheaper!

Mine never showed any codes whatsoever, if you just lift the foam insulation on the nearside bank, you'll see fumes and smell it big time when it's running.

Go and enjoy the holiday and worry about it when you get back!!
