Ghost or Tracker

I've recently purchased a 2013 RRS HSE Black edition. Loving the car so far! Question on security really. Was thinking of purchasing a Ghost and or a tracker. My thinking now is one or the other. Any opinions on which very welcome. Not sure if my car is high value enough for the crims but worth asking the question.
Thanks

A friend of mine got his car back using just an apple air tag under the seat.

The ghost seems over complicated.
Why not just a fuel immobilizer switch under the dash.

If you can afford it go for both. L320 Range Rover Sport 2008

I use Samsung Smart Tags in my car and on on my key-rings, luggage etc. They're proven to be better than the Apple ones, but it doesn't really matter.

I used to live in London, so a Ghost system would have been the most sensible. From an engineering perspective, I think it would be better as trackers are easily discovered and disarmed.

I just use one of these now: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06XP21DK6?ie=UTF8&th=1

It won't stop 'em, but it'll slow 'em down enough for me to set the dog on 'em. Wink

Likewise I hid a couple of Apple AirTags with the speakers removed and a big yellow Stoplock.
If they want to steal it they will but if you can make it look less appealing than the other RRS parked a few spaces down that’s the best you can do…

I had both fitted 5 1/2 years ago and your right its a bit overkill now,
if I was doing it now I would go with a tracker only, as for the budget
you have its entirely your choice,

Apple AirTags & Samsung Smart Tags are much cheaper with no yearly
charge, a tracker will always have a yearly or multiyear oncost.. ===========================================

For my two - penneth.

I live in Sheffield
where car crime is rife to say the least Whistle Whistle Whistle
So it was a no brainer for me to have both the ghost2 and a tracker fitted. All in 1k with lifetime, my ownership tracker included.

I also use a disc lock on the steering wheel.
Both the Ghost and the disc-lock took some getting used to to be honest. However still have the motor nearly four years later.
Would I again............. YES Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Just my two - penneth as said.

if your going to get a steering wheel lock my advice would be to get one that covers the whole of the steering wheel not just loops through it,
as mine [before i bought it ] had the steering wheel cut to get the lock off also damaged top of dash with the saw blade ,
i bought it with this damage but the ghost immobiliser that was fitted saved them getting away with the car
new steering wheels are eye watering expensive as i soon found out Thumbs Up

For my insurance , i had to have a tracker installed , about £200 , + £12 per month

but as a bolt on to the tracker device , i have had an Imobiliser installed , which is controlled via an app on my phone , 1 off £120

When I bought my old TDV8, insurers required a tracker (still a relatively new model back then although a second hand buy for me).

I was twice called by the tracker company - one when I was sat in the cabin of the recovery truck when it did the TDV8 turbo thing, and one after I sold it and the new owner had trailered it somewhere. So the tracker did work as advertised and it worked quickly. But it doesn't stop it being nicked. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

If it's been stolen, do you really want it back. The in control app shows where the car goes anyway so you can track it that way. If its in a container, the ship has probably sailed before the police become interested. I would prefer if it can't be started in the first place, ie Ghost, immobiliser, etc Range Rover Sport (gone): Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe: 992 Porsche Carrera 4S: Range Rover Fifty P400e

Good point about getting it back - if it's been thrashed around then there's possible damage to consider. But, in the event that the insurers do pay out, you're likely to be left out of pocket because you'll likely want to replace it with something younger and thus costing more than the payout. That's the balance one faces, I guess. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Was thinking of fitting a Ghost 2 only to try and save a few quid on Insurance. Thing is, when I put it into these comparison websites, the quote isn’t coming out any cheaper.
Think I need to speak to a specialist broker.

I have a Ghost 11 on my Range Rover Fifty, but you will find they are not Thatchem approved so no Insurance reduction. Here is a list of Thatchem approved, probably more than this
