2010 Range Rover Autobiography Sport TDV8.

I need to get my head round what’s happening, but will explain here the best I can to start off with……

I programmed timed climate this evening 30 mins before leaving work, the temperature outside was 3/4 degrees C. The FBH works fine with no vapour or smoke at all, you can hear it quietly roaring away and the cabin is just about warmish and all the windows are demisted, so in my eyes it’s doing its job, the AC light flashes orange as normal.

I start the car and drive off, but halfway home (5 miles) the temp gauge is halfway (operating temp) as expected/normal, but the blown air set at 19c is blowing luke warm air only, if you crank it up to 28c the blown air does get warmer, but not hot as you would expect, it stays at this lukewarm warm air temp at 19c all the way home having covered 10 miles.

On the way to work though, early afternoon today (and most days), the temp still at 19c, the blown air temp is quite hot with ambient being 7 outside. I don’t have the timed climate programmed for leaving for work, as it’s not necessary.

It seems like if I have the timed climate on, it’s causing the blown air to be colder when the FBH has been on. Googling the problem, the L322 full fat RR has a directional valve down near the FBH, which gets stuck (15 mins swap out job to replace) - I can’t find reference to this valve on an L320? If it actually has one at all? Which could be the issue.

If I remember rightly if I don’t have the FBH (timed climate) programmed at night leaving work, I’m sure it blows hot air as normal, it does though seem, that every day (engine warm/cooling/warm cycle that the blown air temperature returns to normal again when travelling to work early afternoon no matter what the temperature is.

I thought of a HVAC reset? Or maybe updating the HVAC control module and paying Gap iid for the privilege to see if that helps maybe.

Can anyone help or have I answered my own question?

It might be me being dumb.

The heat does get warm, but cools down the air temperature as the cabin becomes warmer I think, unless I'm missing something.

Maybe its my age I get used to full on heat in your face and turning it down manually to get the right temp in the car.

Still cant get my head round the fact that the wing mirrors don't have the option to heat up manually. I'd read its a combination of wiper function and outside temp. Thing is if I don't want the wipers on because there's frost, how do I know the wing mirror heaters are going to come on??? Really odd function by Land Rover, I cant think I've ever felt the glass warm, even though I did see the drivers side wing mirror heater element had a fault, so I replaced the glass - its never come on so I know it was a successful swap out!!!

Anyway rant over.

Must be the sophisticated way the Land Rover climate works, the ambient air is always going to be cooler as the cabin warms up.

One final question - does everyone just use the climate with air con active 'all year round' in automatic, or do you control the system with A/C off and direct the vents as you see fit?

No idea on the fbh tbh but I did raise an eyebrow on the heated wing mirror function.

My 2010 TDV8 (non AB) had a dicky driver’s wing mirror which also was inoperative until I replaced the glass, but I’ve never known what triggers the heating to come on, so interesting to know it’s a multitude of factors.

Pleasingly I have a heated screen, which takes very little time to clear, so hopefully I can get the wipers operating and switching on the heated mirrors fairly quickly.

Personally mine is left on Auto all the time, just screw temp up and down or adjust facia vents as required manually.

Don't think there is any manual control over turning the heated mirrors on or off all auto.
