New SVR owner best security

New SVR owner here, not sure why Ive done it tbh, insane insurance, mpg and extremely desirable to thieves, but here we are.

So my vehicle is a 2018 facelift and has been updated with N828v5 Theft Mitigation Phase 3, does this make me any safer?

My vehicle and keys are quite a distance away, so that should negate the relaying of the key. My vehicle is parked in a very public area with 24 hour security, which most thieves wouldn’t want to hang around for a long period trying to nick it.

I am not sure the process on Range Rovers, but owning BMW M cars, i had multiple theft attempts. Process was if it hasn’t had the security update, they can break the window or open the door, plug into OBD and take the car in minutes. If it has had the security update, they need to sit there for an hour or so and reprogram the the ECU from memory. Visual deterrent, i.e. steering lock along with the security update seemed to stop the attempts.

What's the thieves process with a Range Rover? Is it relay the key? or can they plug into OBD and hack away in minutes or do they need to spend some time on it if key is not in range?

Is a ghost/starlink immobiliser 100% necessary? Visual deterrents?
What are the best options?

Thanks

Hi,

In my opinion, get a GHOST-2 fitted.

I have one on my L461 AB, it’s configured on the gearbox so I can still use remote start and is really effective.

£495 fitted ( as a standalone item).

Engineer fitted it at my place in a few hours, really neat and tidy installation and respected the (at the time) one day old car.

Thanks for the reply, will check it out.

Tracker needed? From memory with the BMW's, tracker was pretty pointless as once its gone its gone and they will disable the tracker anyway. Maybe a couple air tags plotted around the car?

When at home put your keys in a metal container. Mine are in an old coffee/tea container. Stops relay theft. Try it by taking the container with keys in it up to the car & check the doors will not open Thumbs Up
I have a Ghost 2 in my Range Rover Fifty. Now, if you have it in valet mode where Ghost is disabled for having the car in for service & its stolen, if driven over 32mph, it starts a 15 minute timer & after that time, when switched off it will not restart without the code, but if during that 15minutes, the car comes to a stop at road junction or lights, the timer resets, so you get another 15 minutes & so on.
As your in London, you could probably drive around forever without it needing the code inputted. Different if you go on a Motorway, after the 15 mins, the car has not stopped, it will need the code for the next restart.
I have driven mine for days in valet mode around town & never had to input the code, but realised what is the point of having it so now always use the code Range Rover Sport (gone): Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe: 992 Porsche Carrera 4S: Range Rover Fifty P400e

Hi,

I manage mine mainly from the phone App. As I leave the house, I enable the App and the car recognises it and clears the GHOST. I turn it off if away from the car, and turn it back on when I’m heading back to it.

I use valet mode if it goes in for service. If they collect it for service, I change my personal PIN to something even an LR mechanic can remember, then change it back to my PIN when she comes home.

A small inconvenience once a year! Very Happy

Am hearing the baddies have already cracked the new code … the fitting of a Ghost is essential… again ensure the fitter configures it as Scrumps says via the gearbox. This will still enable the remote warm up and also protect the car as they were hacking in via the remote start..
By going down the gearbox lock route means they won’t be able to drive it away even if they get the engine running! Don’t bother with the JLR tracker as they can instantly delete it.. … instead buy a Cantrack battery tracker which without doubt are the best tracker you can buy!
