Alloy refurb but what colour to go for?

Morning All!

My alloys are in desperate need of a refurb, I think the previous owner(s) essentially drove around hugging the kerbs Laughing

Now, I'm not a massive fan of the diamond cut finish of the originals, I have never been a fan of diamond cut so I am looking to have them powder coated a different colour but I cannot decide which. My initial thoughts when I brought the car were to black out the grilles, badges etc and then go for black wheels but having lived with the car for a couple of months, the silver trim has grown on me.

So, do I just go for a silver finish to the wheels? Maybe an anthracite or still look at a black?

Thoughts guys - I'd value the opinions of others on here because my wife and family are fed up of me asking them Rolling Eyes

Thanks

Hi,

As I recall, the standard wheel silver for Land Rover is “Silver sparkle” - paint code “MNH”.

I went for steel grey, which is quite similar to Stornoway Grey. In hindsight I’d stick with silver.

Black wheels are not nice imho, you can’t see the style as well as you can with silver.

Mind you, with the steel grey the brake dust doesn't show as much.

Thanks Col, I haven't considered Shadow Chrome but I will certainly look into it.

I know what you mean, Silver does tend to make the wheels 'pop' a little more.

I fitted later style RRS wheels in 21" and have to say, they do fit the arches a lot better. I've not noticed an difference in ride and pleased with them.

Wheels can be had pretty cheaply on eBay and if you're thinking of doing it, you may as well get the new wheels re-furbed rather than the old ones.

I got lucky and got 4 wheels with nearly new Scorpion Verde tyres for £390. Paid £220 for the powder coating and the total was just over the price of 2 new tyres.

Here's a similar listing https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/286222824363?_s...ition=3000

Re: Alloy refurb but what colour to go for?

I am kind of in the same boat.. I have exactly the same rims and they have been severely rashed up prior to fitting 275x45 tyres. I did buy a set exactly the same to refurb and my plan was to have them painted gloss black... then I had a quote to refurb them and powder coat. My plan now is I am fixing the rash on the set I bought.. one is cracked so I need to see about getting that repaired or scrapping it and then I will think about painting or powder coating ($240 per rim here in Aus). I was thinking anthracite for mine but have also toyed with the idea of Gloss Black. I love shadow Chrome but I believe it is difficult to achieve with Powder coating. At least painting I can do myself and then hit it with 2 pak clear coat.
Thanks
