Newby/engine questions

Hi Guys,
I am looking for a RRS after 3 years with a good Touareg.
I have made my mind on a L494 rather a L405 so now I want to get on quickly.
I would like to know if the RRS with 306 hp has the same engine than the RRS with 258 hp.
If it is not the same engine, do you know if I has two turbos?
Thanks a lot,
L

If you don't do a lot of mileage, best to stay away from the SDV6 and get the SDV8 or the Supercharged V8. --

Thanks for your reply.
But I do quite a lot of mileage, something like 35000 kilometers a year.
Thanks.

Same engine, different stage of tune from the factory.
We have a 306BHP SDV6 and it's great, far quicker than I imagined.
It definitely has 2 turbo's.

Remember, you only read about bad engines on the forums. There are thousands with no problems! A Cheshire expat in France.

Thank you very much for your reply.
It is very clear to me the 306 hp has 2 turbos now.
Does the 158 hm have two turbos also?
Thanks you very much.

The official workshop manual refers to primary and secondary turbo's, so yes, they are 2 on all SDV6 engines regardless of the BHP. A Cheshire expat in France.

Think the 258bhp was the TDV6 which was fitted to the L405.

The L494 got the SDV6 (twin turbo) and was 292 bhp which then went to 306 bhp/700Nm around the time it went to Euro 6.

Get a later one - it’s more frugal and there were some updates to the engine which helped with the crank issues.

Thank you Turdmon. That is very interesting.
You think the 306 hp will get possibly less issues than the 292 or the 258 hp.
The one I am interested in is 2016 model 306 HP.
To be honest that is the first car I am so unsure because what we read…

I am no expert and I’m only going from info that’s out there, but most failures tend to be on pre 2016 cars.
I think it’s a case of buying the best one you can afford. I think it’s a great engine, but it does need looking after.

I own 2014 SDV6 with 198K miles, original engine, turbos etc, still going strong.

These cars needs to be driven and if you look after it, it will do decent miles

You can look after it all you want, but if the gods have decided that it's going to eat its crank...

Yes, I think that’s about right. My point being is that if you mistreat it, you’ve a lot more chance of failure.
