Good Evening!

Having now acquired a 2014 RRS SDV8 4.4 Autobiography I would like to fit a towbar but I am not sure what type of towbar fits my particular model.

I have looked through several of the listed 'towbar' topics but none appear to provide me with details about the type of towbar that will fit the L494 model.

On my 2010 RRS I was fortunate that it had the Witter 'quick release' receptacle mounted to the rear subframe, (which I believe may have been standard fitment for the earlier model), but I do not believe it was fitted to the later L494?

Having now removed the 'quick release' small square panel, (that sits where the towbar would pertrude from under the rear end of the car), my suspicions would appear to be correct as all I could see was a box section cross member and two cable harnesses, (presumably for the towbar electrics - when fitted)?

The box section cross member does have several holes drilled in it - am I correct in presuming that there will be an after market towbar that will have additional hardware that will allow it to be bolted to the existing cross member or is it more involved than that?

Please accept my apologies if I have missed the obvious - it was very cold at the weekend and I didn't fancy staying under the backend of the car any longer than necessary - so I dud not remove the additional cover that went further back under the car!

I had the tow trust one fitted with the removable tow hook.

Fitted this type to mine,there was posts on interweb saying it wouldn't fit ,it did after fabricating exhaust hangers and trimming the plastic trim that sits behind the battery box,
bottom clip doesn't quite fit on the towbar cover but not at all noticeable unless you was runover and even then I'm sure it wouldn't be on the top of your list to complain about
Very happy with outcome as I'm not a fan of the swan neck type towing a 3.5 ton trailer

That is a very neat installation and the fabrication work looks very thorough.

What was your towbar originally designed for- an earlier/later Land Rover model - in which case you would have known that the fitting points would be in the same ballpark?

I do not plan to do any serious towing so a detachable solution would suit me but not sure if there is a detachable towbar, (with a suitable sub frame), for the RRS.

I have a cycle rack that sits on a tow bar and would like to start using that, once again, if I can find a reasonably priced towbar solution.

The last time I towed a heavy load was when I drove down to Devon to pick up a Mercedes and even though it was a very long day, (and a lot of miles), towing with my previous FFRR I found the entire process was effortless!

Hence my 4th investment into the marque!

It's a l494 tow bar but it was said it won't fit under the svr bumper
The bottom of the square receiver just stops the cover clipping in at the bottom underneath the car
I could have either shaved a bit off the towbar or cut a small slot in the cover
But wasn't worth the effort I don't think

That makes perfect sense to me - and I know exactly what you are talking about as I took my panels off last weekend just to see what mounting bolts holes and framework was hidden underneath.

I am presuming that all the bolt holes are pre-drilled into the existing subframe and you just provide suitable nuts and bolts to fix it to the subframe?

I note that there is a wiring harness, (with two connectors), fixed to my subframe close to where the towbar would be located and I presume these are the feeds from the various lights for the trailer sockets?

I will keep an eye out for a towbar like yours now that I know what I am looking for and I would agree with you with regards to avoiding cutting bits off anything, (metal or plastic)!

I have taken a look at the website and their prices are very reasonable although I have also seen a couple of the electric retractable tow bar assemblies too!!

Perhaps that is a bit overkill for my requirements!!

When I fitted a towbar to my last FFRR I had to remove the bumper in order to fit the trailer cable harness and it seemed to come off without too much hassle - but as it is such a visible 'feature' of these vehicles I was very wary about marking or damaging it whilst taking it off and putting it back.

Right back to the ads!!!!
