More details please !

Cost, ease of installation, does it access data through your phone etc etc

My 11 yr old would love to get his sticky fingers on it.

Cheers

Jonny

Hi Jonny,

Fairly simple install to be honest, you've just got to be confident with pulling your dash apart. Only 10 screws in total have to be removed though, everything else is on clips. I had some advice from Col for mounting the actual box itself which was useful (thanks Col).

Overall, and for the price, I'm chuffed with the results. I had read a few reviews on the unit going into it so I knew wireless CarPlay was a bit hit and miss (which it is) but that doesn't bother me as I prefer a wired connection to keep my phone charged. It supports CarPlay, Android Auto, Screen Mirroring and some other bits but for me I just wanted Google Maps and Spotify via CarPlay.

I got the unit from AliExpress (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004770255674.html) but after receiving it I found it was from a firm called CARABC. If you look on the CARABC website its available as well, slightly more in terms of cost but you may get better after care (should you need it) buying from the manufacturer direct.

Happy to answer any other questions, I've included a few photos below which may, or may not, be useful.

Thanks

Really helpful - many thanks.

Will do some investigating. I also prefer hard wiring as Bluetooth sound quality is bobbins.

Cheers

Just following up - it looks like the existing screen is used and it’s just the box of electronics that’s supplied ?

Can’t quite tell from your pic, but it looks like the unit is mounted somewhere near the armrest ?

Yes - the existing screen is utilised and you still have access to the original menus as well. Basically this box (I believe all options do the same as well) sits inline of the Nav input so you will lose factory sat nav, when you press the Nav button, CarPlay / Android Auto launches. If you want to come back to the standard RR menus you just press the Home button. It's pretty slick to be honest, and I havent used my factory nav once since owning the car so I'm not missing a lot.

In terms of installation, I have added a Blue line where mine has been nicely tucked away, it sits under a plastic support bar and I just used double sided sticky pads (to reduced any potential vibration) and cable ties. I know some owners choose to put it behind the glove box but I found it to be too tight here.

I hope it helps.

James

Think I may be scuppered at the first hurdle. My car is a 2011 and pretty sure it has the Denso head unit. I’ve emailed Carabc and will see if they do a unit, as I think you and Col have Bosch head units.

Thanks for posting details and pics of this James, I've just ordered one for myself. Thumbs Up

I've been tempted for a while, but I'm disabled and have very limited use of my left hand so haven't bothered. However, given the cheap price of the unit I think I may be able to borrow one of my grandson's hands to help. Wink
