So they took a fuel sensor of a working car just to make sure then took the car out and it drove great apparently no limp mode then they took it out again the next day and they where accelerating on a slip way when it just cut out on them and they wouldn’t get it to restart so had to get it recovered back to the dealer but still can’t get it to restart they tho putting the old fuel sensor back in should get it back running again but it didn’t

They are now saying that it’s pretty obvious now that the new high pressure fuel pump that they installed last year has now completely failed and looks to have been the fault all along and they have now ordered another brand new pump and are going to drop the fuel tank again to clean and flush all the fuel lines just in case there it dirt that is killing all theses pumps , and they said it’ll all going to be covered under the Land Rover warranty form the pump since it’s under two year old , like 3 grands worth of work again

But yeah it’s almost hard to believe that the first high pressure fuel pump we installed after the car stoped running years ago was faulty from day one then last year the dealer replaced it with another brand new pump and then that one only lasted 30 miles before throwing up low pressure fault codes again not even getting us home with it before having to take it straight back to the dealer then leading to a hole year of changing and chasing other parts with no one wanting to believe two faulty pumps in a row , so if it hadn’t failed now then who knows when it would of been blamed !

So I should know by the end of next week if they get it back running again and keeping everything crossed that it’s finally fixed ! 2017-Discovery 5 TDV6 HSE

The FVCV is part of the HPFP.

Yes I do know this but why would I or any of the technicians that have worked on the car believe that two FVCV would be faulty in a row and would require a third unit to resolve the issue, naturally after two attempts you would be more than happy that the fault was not a result of the HPFP, thus moving on to investigate other parts of the fuel system like making sure the HPFP / FVCV was getting enough fuel to operate properly, then making sure the FVCV was getting the proper commands by testing the wiring / changing the plugs to even replacing the PCM just to make sure the HPFP was being commanded properly.

It’s all well and good saying a certain value is at fault but once you have replaced that value twice and made no difference you can’t just keep blaming it , you then need to open your eyes and look at the bigger picture are all the inputs to that value being achieved to them get the satisfaction outcome of that one valve and once you can confirm that all inputs are achieved and you can see that the output is then not achieved to specification , then blame can fall on the part again.

Thanks for your thoughts tho ! 2017-Discovery 5 TDV6 HSE

Well this sport is just unbelievable / is this dealer completely incompetent!
so to replace the high pressure fuel pump again they decided to remove the body for better access and to also inspect the fuel line and clean then out along with clean the tank just in case there is dirt.
They spent a few days doing all this then after putting the body back on they got the car to restart with ease first test drive was driving fine then the next day the technician took it out again then the next day the workshop control manager and a driver took it out and on a long straight they got up to 85mph and it went in to restricted performance and completely lost all power and practically crawled to a lay bay where they stoped and started it again and then it drove back to the dealer fine.
Now they are completely stump and haven’t got a clue what it could be and it sound like they are ready to give up , apparently there has been very few cars they haven’t been able to fix but this must be one of the worst ones there saying.

There has been so much time and money in this car that ill never get back if I just park up and to rot or worse scrap it what else is it good for if it just keeps randomly going in restricted performance. 2017-Discovery 5 TDV6 HSE

Random issues usually (not always) arise from wiring issues. Perhaps you need to look at the fuel pressure sensor connector, the fuel pressure sensor connectors a little more closely. Perhaps even give them a good spray with an electrical spray cleaner. I would also do same with the LPFP connector as well. Corrosion and dirt causes issues.

Renew the LPFP relay. Those can also fail intermittently.

The smallest of issues can trip you up with a Land Rover so do not ignore fundamentals
.

So yesterday I finally collected my car from the Land Rover dealer now 100% fixed after 10 months this year and 4 months last year ,fault originally started in 2021 but now it’s finally fully fixed no more limp mode on acceleration! Very Happy
Just when the dealer was about to completely give up after changing the high pressure pump again which got the car running about but after test driving it was driving worse ! They described it was badly hunting and badly struggling to acceleration, they’d just really had enough of it but they wanted to have one more look and check fault codes , not quite sure what they found but they told me the next day that they had swapped the fuel pressure sensor AGAIN ! From an abandoned car , and then the workshop control manager and a driver took it back out and said it’s “ running mint “ big improvement no more hunting , not sluggish in the slittiest , and no limp mode no matter how hard they thrashed it.
And after 6 more test drives they were happy to return it back to me.

It has been such a weird long story but looks like I was sold a faulty VDO pump from a Land Rover parts specialist in 2021 / start of all my problems which I then replaced low pressure pump and fuel rail sensor pulse so much more but I did put the old sensor back in when it didn’t make a difference cause it was just a cheap ones then fast forward to 2023 when the dealer replaced the high pressure pump again then car was perfect for about 30 miles before throwing up low pressure codes again , then 2024 when it was back this year they did swap the fuel rail sensor from that abandoned car but then the next day the car completely cut out and whould not restart so they swapped the sensor back thinking that was the reason but of course later found the second high pressure pump had completely failed so they replaced that and clean and flushed the hole fuel system looking for dirt or debris but found nothing and of course fitted third pump car rested but then drove terrible until swapped that other sensor back on and car has been perfect ever since.

So two faulty components no wonder it was very confusing to understand also who’d believe two faulty pump so far in between with no explanation to why they wouldn’t work properly, not sure at what point in between 2021 and now October 24 the fuel rail sensor become faulty but with that length of time it could of happed at any time . But with the sensor being swapped twice in the past it definitely looks like it was the HP pump and the sensor at some point one almost hiding behind the other

But yeah I’m so delighted that this is finally done and fixed and to be honest my local Land Rover dealer has looked after me so well yes 15 months is a bit ridiculous time to have it there in total by they are very busy and it was a realy head scratcher that they couldn’t devote too much time to at once , well I say not to much time but the manager revealed that intotal for diagnosing replacing parts , mot work they where about the 100! Hour mark !!! At £220 an hour I’ll let you do the math to what my bill should of been , but I can confirm I payed a very small amount of that parts at cost prise and labour I did get charged for was only at £120 and hour so couldn’t really ask for better , well only if they did it quicker Whistle

So yeah thanks to everyone’s thoughts and I’m so glad I can post a fix unlike so many posts that never have an ending or a happy one !
