So I've inadvertently purchased 2off nearly new pirellis 285 45 22 off Ebay.....thinking they were 285 40 22 .....

My heart sank when I saw them standing in the hallway tonight ....they look bloody massive

I have the potential to put them on 22x9.5j alloys with ET40 offset - possibly ET35

Would these go on my 2012 L320 ?

Or am I p@ssing in the wind ?!?!?!?!?!?

I think personally I might be inclined to check with your insurance company first, to see if it's o.k. with them, as I think it would be classed as a modification these day's and not ever being a o.e. size on the L320 either.

You bought 2? You'll need another 2 if you're going to try using them. Running different rolling radius tyres will likely cause your traction control / DSC to have a gentle fit. At 60 mph, the 285/45 will be 2mph faster than the 285/40. Not much but it could be enough to upset things.

I'd also be surprised if they'd fit without rubbing at full lock. They're about 12% larger diameter than the tyre sizes fitted as standard. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Yes - I know I'll need another 2off if I can get someone to advise whether these will fit or not before i buy another 2off

Failing that , if they won't fit on my L320 - i may consider fitting them to my L322 (after i buy another 2 off)

I have had confirmation from one user that a 275 45 r22 tyre will go on without rubbing

the 275 45 R22 is 806.3mm in diameter , the 285 45 r22 is 815.3mm in diameter - so we're talking an additional 4.5mm arch loss - the difference in width between a 275 and a 285 is 10mm.

I really don't want to 'trial by fire' this and just get the big tyres put on - test fit to the car and see what happens at full lock at very low maneuvering speed .....

The moral to this story is don't browse ebay late at night with blurry eyes.....

Ah, I was just checking that you knew about the need for 4 as we have, in the past, had people come on here wanting to do staggered sizes between front and rear axles - presumably because they think it would look cool.

Yeah, that's probably your only/best way of knowing for sure. Need to check on both axles as well, as the rear axle has a great range of vertical movement than the front. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
