Accident Damage - write off?

I was involved in an accident this evening: drunk driver drove into my stationary car. No major injuries and several witnesses, plus driver was breathalysed and shown to be 4x over the limit!

They hit me at about 35mph, about 2ft of their car hitting 2ft of my car: basically bumper and tyre contact on driver’s side…..but enough of a bash to have front wheels pointing in opposite directions and could barely turn wheel to get car out of road.

It’s a 2018 RRS 400e plug-in petrol hybrid with 65,000 miles on the clock, which I’ve owned since new. Full RRS service history. Quick check in classifieds suggests worth about £30k?

I am wondering if impact and damage is likely to warrant it being written off, or whether it is repairable? And, if it is repairable, what will that do to its end value? The other driver was insured and completely not my fault, but it could still end up costing me money if a crashed and repaired car is worth less than an untouched one.

What is the protocol here? How do I ensure I don’t lose money and get fobbed of with a bad deal by her insurance company? SDV6, Supercharged V8, SDV6 Hybrid, PHEV

Difficult to say without seeing pictures, but this suffered a bent subframe. £21k to repair

Needless to say, it was a write off

Drunk driver won’t be insured so costs are down to her?

I think you may find her insurance will pay out for the OP's vehicle, but they will not pay for her own vehicles damage because she was drunk even if she is fully comp. and may even sue her for the costs of the repairs to OP's vehicle.

Cheers

Agree - OP’s car will be covered but offending vehicle not because she was OPL.

Bad luck, glad no one was injured is the main thing...

I would buy it back ! Looks an easy repair , sub frame new part/ crash bar etc, rads etc.

Looks a fairly easy repair, if you wanted a project Smile

I don't think the picture posted by DM, is the actual sport involved in the accident.

It's not, my pic is of a customers car. Was shown to demonstrate how easy it is to write a car off Thumbs Up

A subframe is not just a 2 minute job, and the bolts are almost guaranteed to snap off in the body frame...

Thanks for comments. My car looks remarkably like the picture! Possibly a bit less surface damage, but identical point of impact. But mine wasn’t enough to dent bonnet, possibly because other car was a smallish Audi and hit lower. Awaiting news of actual damage. Fear it will not be a write-off and will get fobbed off with a repair, and however well that is done by an approved dealer, think it will reduce its end value. My insurer has come up trumps with a like-for-like courtesy car (hooray), and has muttered about ‘alternatives’ if I don’t want to accept my car back….’but I cannot talk about those yet’. I wonder what other options he/I have? SDV6, Supercharged V8, SDV6 Hybrid, PHEV

ahhhh I seeeee, if its as the OP says and has less damage, new sub frame on front, rad pack, crash bar etc shouldn't be that bad....

Depends if you'd want a project or not I suppose.

With your insurance you will need to keep pushing them, always reject their first offer.
Remember the job of your 'insurance claims specialist' is to payout as little as possible.
