Without being flippant (honestly trying to be helpful), do you have a friend with a towbar who could tow your van and see if you get the noise, OR borrow a friends van for a few mins to try. Without eliminating one variable hard to be sure. If not possible drive slowly with someone next to the hitch as you turn and see if they can hear where its coming from. When we tow (bmw x3) we get various noises and its different everytime, can never figure it out but van is always still behind when we arrive so all good |

I would also say it will be the pads in the hitch.

If the paint was still on for the first journey it will have contaminated the pads.
